Alum: I made some of the best friends at this school, however the faculty and staff have a very inefficient way of running this school. Most students that went there were unhappy with the discipline here, as they would invade your personal privacy. Parent: Our daughter has had a great experience during her first year at Florence Middle School. The facilities and faculty are both far above our initial expectations, and the teachers have gone out of their way to educate the students in creative ways during the pandemic. The extracurricular opportunities for 7th and 8th graders is amazing, and the ability to take virtual classes and honors classes has really kept our child learning at her full potential. Works Here: Academics ensure students are learning on their level and retaining info/skills. Teachers are involved and truly care about students. Clubs/activities could be better. School culture is unique. Sports for Hibbett could be better. Community resources for Hibbett are unbelievable. Parent involvement is growing. Music/arts are available to all students and instructed by certified teachers in each area. It is very diverse. College readiness is evident by the resources/clubs that are available to students (math team, gifted, etc.). Safety of students is the most important thing to staff. Doors remain locked at all times, procedures are practiced on a monthly basis, and majority of students feel safe while they are at school. The admin is involved and truly care for the students/teachers. FREE breakfast and lunch are made available to all students. Senior: I have been blessed to be a part of the Mars Hill Family for seven and a half years. Just because Mars Hill is a Christian school doesn't mean everyone and everything is perfect. During my time at Mars Hill my family has been through some very hard times. The Mars Hill family has rallied around me, everyone from our President to the little preschoolers, have shown so much love to me and my family! As a senior, when I look back at my time at Mars Hill I see how much I have learned about the Bible and how blessed I am to have been shown so much love by my school. Mars Hill has taught me how to love others in many different situations. When tragedy strikes we all come together as one family. We also celebrate victories in each others personal and spiritual lives. We celebrate sports and school victories also! Senior: Wilson High School is a single campus, Pre-K-12 school, where everyone gets to know each other. As someone who has attended Wilson since Pre-K, I can confirm that the faculty and staff genuinely care about their students and want to see them succeed. If there is one thing that I could change about Wilson, it would be to have a Creative Arts class. There are many gifted students that currently have no outlet for their creativity. Senior: I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Rogers High School. The staff genuinely cares about the success of their students, and that is important when creating a good learning environment. The only thing I would like to see change and evolve would be student clubs. Over the years we have lost clubs due to the lack of assigned sponsors. The more clubs are available, the more you can get students involved in their school and community. Clubs and other extracurriculars not only allow students to get involved with their school, but it teaches important team and leadership skills that are important in preparing students for future jobs. Senior: The student involvement in the community is excellent. Every month the community service, religious clubs, and organizations plan something for the whole student body to do. From National Encouragement Day to cook outs, they cover it all! Something I'd like to see changed is some of the handbook rules. Senior: Central is definitely one of the best schools in the area. There are some very good teachers, and some of them even teach classes at the University of North Alabama. There are two things I would change. I would prefer for the curriculum to be more rigorous and in-depth, even though by current standards, it is a good school. I just wasn’t prepared for the ACT. My other change would be that everyone is treated equally, which for the most part, they are. There are, however, some students and even teachers who show favoritism. Central has made progress, but sometimes, students are judged for their families or their income. No one would ever admit to this, of course. I’m sure there are people like this almost everywhere. Additionally, I never had any real friends here until late high school despite being here my whole life, so my personal experience was awful to say the least. Parent: Waterloo is the most wonderful place for families. Most people here are hardworking, friendly, and kind. My child is thriving and loves this school. There are very few discipline issues and staff members have high expectations for students. All students have opportunities to participate in sports, clubs, and extracurricular activities. WHS is part of the Lauderdale County School District and they currently participate in a 1:1 Chromebook Initiative, which means every student in grades 7-12 has a device provided by the school system. Waterloo is a great small town and the community supports the school. The campus is situated in one of the most beautiful areas on the banks of the Tennessee River. The needs of children are the first priorities of the adults at Waterloo. Teachers and staff here are passionate and dedicated to their students and the community.
