Senior: Good Academics and teachers. Fun school to be in even when academic wise it gets tough. Most teachers are friendly and ready to help. Dreyfoos encourages involvement of student group interaction therefore there is unity at least between kids inside specific departments. Outside of those departments sometimes kids feel the need have "rivalries" or almost pick on certain majors but if you love your art and make good friends despite the major they are, you can get around it. Admin encourages students to be proud of their school and to take advantage of the opportunities offered. There is a variety of activities during the school year to go to and enjoy like spirit week and open houses for parents. The school provides with lots of information about a variety of topics like scholarships. Boot camps outside of regular school hours to help with college apps are offered. Alum: After graduating from this school, I could say I had the best four years in this school even thought 2 of them were cut short from Covid-19. I loved the active school spirit involvement which included seasonal pep rallies and cultural activities such as the Black History Month Drama Show and having themed dress-up weeks. Almost all teachers and staff care and challenge students to prepare you for college. One thing that could be changed though is the cleanliness of the bathrooms. Freshman: I have only been here for a few weeks to be honest so I will talk from what I have experienced so far. However, this school is very clean, everyone seems very friendly, and the views from the windows are breathtaking. The Duel Enrollment system in this school is great, since you can literally go to the college next door for your class. Education here is a bit struggling sometimes, as if you don't keep up the minimum 3.5 GPA you get kicked out. However, most teachers seem understanding. Also, the school only has 6 periods and as a freshman, I didn't get to choose my specials which was quite upsetting. Now, I just take it in a positive note since those classes I received aren't that bad. Everything is very expensive and the dress code is quite strict. Not your normal high school experience, however it teaches you life is unfair. Senior: McFatter was a wonderful school that I'm proud to say I attended. Teachers and Staff were willing to help you out if you ever asked and there were plenty of tutoring opportunities. Although we may not have a sports team or a proper band, we make up for it with plentiful clubs. The P.E. course was also very fun. They offer many AP courses that will all help complete your GEP requirements for college, as well as offer Dula Enrollment. The technical programs really are the star of the show. I'm coming out of high school already as a nurse! How cool is that? Anyone can go in and come out with many different certifications that can help you immediately find a better-paying job. Despite also being a college campus, the school takes extra precautions to keep the high school students and the college students separated and have plenty of officers on site if anything were to happen. Parent: How does this school get a B in diversity?! This is not objectively possible-it is a highly diverse school. Teachers are amazing-they all clearly want to be there and are enthusiastic about what they teach. They are happy at MAST. Their enthusiasm spills over to the students who then want to learn. Kids are friendly and welcoming. It’s an A+ school. Sure everyone has an individual experience (same is true at every school) but this is objectively an A+ school. Senior: As a senior at Sheridan Technical High School, my experience has been a mixed review. The students and most staff members show great respect for one another, creating a welcoming and safe environment. The teachers go above and beyond to help students excel. However, I have some concerns about the school overall. There is a limited selection of non-academic classes, and extracurricular activities that aren't academically focused receive little support. For instance, the drama club consistently wins awards and excels at the state level, but the school doesn't prioritize or assist the club adequately. Junior: The school has a relatively small population of students ( a few hundred ) that have diverse backgrounds as it is a multilingual school (English, Spanish, French and Italian). Senior: I was in the visual communications strand. My passion for graphic design developed exponentially through my time there, though my explorations were pretty self-directed. The teacher is leaving this year so it'll probably be different next year. I know that the architecture teacher is great. The workload is quite intense, and if you expect to have flawless grades, you'll have to work significantly harder than in some other schools, as you have to produce quality art for a decent grade regularly. Senior: This school is like no other. When I was in 10th grade, I was looking for something to challenge me and I prayed to God to get in and by his grace, I did get in. This school pushed me to understand how important our schedule is not just in school, but outside of it. In doing that I started to change the way I did things. So, I longer said, "when I get home I'll do my homework" but instead I started to say, "When I get home at 6:00 I'll do my homework in my room". It was in that little detail that I got the hang of it. Even though, academically this school has been great! It sometimes can get stressful with having almost all the classes as core classes. Junior: Within this school there have been an abundance of teachers who have a genuine passion for what they teach and you see it reflected in their tone when tackling certain topics in their classes and how they interact with students. Though this may be so, the amount of work given to children even before college is a thought to them is unheard of in other schools and thus had led to horrendous mental health across the student body. Yes, we are all very much so prepared for the world ahead, but this was all done at the sacrifice of ourselves. Our priorities get rearranged for this school to have what it wants because we know 'it is good for us.' Parent: It's an A+mazing school where teachers are taking their time with each and every student, and making sure that every student is shining to his/her maximum in each of the subjects. The curriculum is great. Music class is a magnet for my kids, and after their choir class my kids come home so happy every time and are inspired to sing at home beautifully! Art class is very creative, Spanish is fun, Mandarin Chinese is fascinating and they hear lots of stories about China and Asia there, too. Alum: Let me say smth about Carver: u either like it or u hate it. I liked it, bc as far as middle schools go, it’s pretty decent. No bullying, ur not worried abt randomly getting punched in the face in the hallway… etc, etc. But some ppl are ready to leave on day one. If u like sports, there are some teams that are good, like tennis, volleyball, and soccer but that’s basically it. So I recommend playing outside of school. Some teachers suck, and some will be the greatest teachers u ever have. Take Physical Science in 7th if u can. And PLEASE j take Art and/or PE. U’ll thank me later. The administration isn’t the greatest, except for a couple ppl. So j try to avoid them at all costs. To sum things up, ur going to Carver for 1 of 2 reasons: either your parents are forcing u to go, or ur going bc u like to learn. If ur forced to go, ur prolly gonna hate it. Senior: LEOMHS, is a school with a lot of opportunities, for those who want to study, law, forensics or homeland security. You gain lots of experience on your strand and build lots of connections. You are able to go on field trips and have people talk to you about their careers and help you build yours. LEOMHS, has a police station right next door, which really intrigues those who are interested in Law enforcement. We also have a courtroom, where students to practice how to do court trials. This makes LEOMHS extremely unique and not like anything other school. I personally loved my time at LEOMHS, i’m leaving here with many connections with everyone at the school. The staff is very nice and respectful and I couldn’t be more thankful. LEOMHS, takes pride, honor and respect (our school motto) very seriously.
