Junior: My experience here was absolutely fantastic!! If you are on the fence at all about applying, definitely give it a shot. We have the best math, science, english, and social studies programs in the city, and they aren’t going anywhere soon. The football is kind of lacking, but our swimming, water polo, volleyball, and track/XC teams are stupendous. As with most schools in AISD we don’t have all the resources in the world because of recapture and the state, but we definitely make the most of what we have, the food is better than I expected for a high school, and our facilities are getting better year on year. Our college counselors (another perk of LASA) are a highlight of the school and help everyone (juniors and seniors) with college applications. Also, I cannot speak more highly of the elective diversity that we have. We have something for everyone, and I suggest looking through the course guide on the website. Senior: The academic program truly helps students be prepared for college. As part of the School of Science and Engineering's accelerated math track, I took Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, and AP Calculus AB as part of a double-block schedule during my freshman year. I also took SuperLab, a unique science track offered during Junior Year consisting of AP Physics C: Mechanics, AP Chemistry, and a hands-on Lab & Experimental Design course. The teachers are approachable and very dedicated to their students' education. Almost all of the teachers offer tutoring hours before and/or after school and sponsor extracurricular activities. In addition, the school culture is unique compared to most other schools. Students genuinely care about their learning and academic opportunities, so this produces a cooperative and academics-driven culture. Freshman: Debakey High School for Health Professions is a public high school located in the med center of Houston. This school is very academically rigourous but it helps you very much by preparing you for college. This school is especially good for student who plan to pursue a career in the medical field. The students here are very nice and will help you a lot. The only problem is that there aren't many extra curriculars. And some teachers don't teach very well. So I would the school to expand it extra curriculars and change it teacher policy so that it helps the students a little more. However, the school does have many amazing teachers who will help you suceede in life. Another problem some students expierence is too much homework and projects which disrupt day-to-day life. This causes them to not have any time left over for themselves and rather causes them to be depressed. In this case, I would suggest the student to switch out to another school very quickly.... Senior: HSPVA is a place for Visual artists, Theater artists , vocalists, instrumentalists, creative writers , and dancers to perdue their artistic dreams through experienced staff, a state of the art building in downtown Houston, and opportunities to have your artwork shared with the world. Our school has won three Grammys, dozens of presidencial youngarts awards, and our alumni have been featured in the MFAH, Grey's Anatomy, Jones Hall, the Wortham Center, Discovery Green, Scholastic, and the Voice. Our most famous alumni being Beyonce! Our building is equiped with sound rooms, a print room, galleries, technology labs, large outdoor patios, recording equipment, piano rooms, lounging areas, and even metalworking equipment. Alum: Science Academy was a great school in terms of education quality and classmates. We were also given direct access to advanced equipment in the engineering lab such as 3D Printers, Acrylic Printing Machines, Multiple Cutting Devices, and more- all for free! I am also very fond of the environment I was immersed in. Science Academy is a very competitive school. Its environment only motivated me to do better in my classes. The only thing that kept me from giving this rating a 5 stars was the sudden shift in rules that dampened my senior year. Administration changed a lot of the long term traditions that I anticipating enjoying when I was a freshman and definitely looked forward to as a senior such as the Renfest trip, Collaboration on Fridays, and being able to enjoy lunches with my Med High friends. Senior: Coming from a large middle school, the Environment at Clear Horizons was quite a change. Here, you arent surrounded by random peers and thousands of other students. At clear Horizons, we are family. There are around 500 kids in my school which is shocking to outsiders. The best thing about this school is the support system that you couldn't get at public schools. Everyone knows who you are and you know who everyone else is too. You grow relationships and bonds with the teachers and the most of the students. Everyone youre surrounded by is here to help when needs and support your goals. I have made friends that stick with me for the rest of my life and im so honored to have been accepted into Clear Horizons. Junior: This school is AMAZING! From the staff to the other students, everyone is so welcoming and helpful! I have been at this school since 6th grade and am about to be a senior. The perks of this online school are that you complete lessons within your own time. As nice as this may sound it actually makes it incredibly hard for new students by challenging them to be responsible enough to get their work done without help from the teacher or parents to remind them. Additionally, this school teaches skills such as teaching yourself how to learn and time management skills which are both essential for college. The only downsides to this school are the lack of ability to socialize and be around people of your own age group(since most of our students (including me) have incredibly demanding extracurricular activities) and the fact that we don't have many clubs available at our school. Senior: I have loved my time at Booker T. I am in the music conservatory, and the community and artistry that I continually find never ceases to amaze me. I also enjoy rigorous coursework through the many AP classes offered. Performances happen with so much regularity that we are always rehearsing and putting in extra hours towards excellent concerts. Just recently, I played in the band for our all school musical, and the level at which we communicated and felt the music together was just astounding. Six weeks of rehearsals were put into 10 performances that were sold out every night. My only issue with the school lies in the clique nature that arises out of separating us into separate groups. For example, the opportunities for musicians to meet people in dance are few and far between. Our class size is small, but many of us still do not know the names of everyone we're graduating with.... Sophomore: I’m a sophomore at the School of Health Professions. So far I have taken 3 duel credit courses: Intro to Health Professions, General Health Prof Management, and Wellness and Health Promotion. I’m also taking Medical Terminology. These classes have given me insight of the variety of careers available in healthcare. Juniors take pharmacology and pathophysiology. Also, they get to start their clusters(you earn certification) and will have an internship. There are 5 total clusters: Clinical Medical Assistance, Dental Assistance, Patient Care Technician, Medical Laboratory, and Physical Therapy/Sport Medicine(they go together). In addition there are many interesting clubs. I am a member of HOSA. Members of HOSA can compete in events related to certain general or health skills (similar to UIL). This is a magnet school so you’re surrounded by people that desire to succeed in their studies. And we can’t forget the amazing skyline views the school provides of the whole city of Dallas.... Sophomore: I have learned a lot over these past few years of being at Silva and I will say that you will learn a lot. Most of the teachers here are really passionate about what they teach and are really understanding. One thing that I don’t like about this school is the amount of homework that they give us. Usually, the amount of work isn’t took overwhelming if you’re good at time management, but if not, then most people will stay up until around 2 in the morning finishing assignments of projects that are due the next day. Senior: World Scholars, as well as the district, have been fantastic. Since junior high, I've been a student in the STISD district, and they have the best instructors. The teachers here are what keep you moving forward; even if you think something is impossible, they will always try to work with you to find a solution; their want to teach you is apparent; it is their passion. The IB classes and dual enrollment programs at World Scholars set it apart from other schools. You can either complete the IB diploma program in its whole or take dual enrollment courses at UTRGV or STC, or take both IB for the diploma and dual! Junior: I would say that as a junior in Medical Professions, it has been great since 2020, even virtually the school did everything possible to ensure students were learning by having a zoom meeting at the end of the day with their advisory teacher. Today, most of the teachers stay after school to help students who have a hard time understanding the material, there are very kind, friendly and always willing to help. Senior: The best thing I would say about Transmountain Early College High School is that teachers are ready to work with you especially if you need help on assignments or homework with the tutoring hours they offer. I would specifically say the math teachers, which is a good thing since a lot of people struggle in math. One thing I would change about this school is the safety. Anyone who is not a member of the school can just walk in, and that is not safe. The reason why is because we are not all in one building. Each portable is a different classroom outside, and collectively we form the school. However, I do love that since the class sizes are small, we form a sort of family because we are sharing the same rigorous work and environment. I know that personally I have made a lot more friends attending this school and it is truly awesome! Alum: I loved my experience at Townview's ESSM because of the caring cluster teachers we had. Even though our senior year was only online due to covid, our teachers did everything possible to make our year easier with college help and planning. At this school, we were able to intern at locations that correlate with the field we were interested in such as elementary schools, daycare centers, community assistance organizations, shelters, and many more incredible opportunities that vary throughout the education and social services fields. I loved going to my cluster classes because of how beneficial the things that we were learning in the classes were. In one of our cluster classes, we learned so many cool and beneficial things such as money management, how to do our taxes, child development, pregnancy, and so much more.
