Junior: TTA allows students heavy involvement in many different aspects of engineering, with extended lab periods providing experience in the realms of machining and electrical work, alongside advanced math and science classes for assistance in more technical areas. Also provided are very thorough classes on English and History, as well as after-school clubs where students can participate in activities benefiting the school. Safety and professionalism are a top priority of staff, and most students are hard-working and well-behaved. One heavily disliked aspect of TTA is the set of week-long team building activities labeled First and Second Week. Once in August and again at the start of January, children are paired randomly together to accomplish a list of tasks to reach an end goal, usually involving some science or engineering based scenario. Alum: Columbus Alternative High School (CAHS) changed my life forever. I entered CAHS in 2013 as a intercity student who never saw to much of a future for myself. Although, by the time I graduated CAHS in 2017 I expected nothing less than excellence from myself. They offer AP and IB classes to their students for free which allowed me to earn college credits right at my own high school. CAHS was constantly taking into consideration that there are students from all over the district and teaching on a very personalized basis. The teachers and administrators put learning first and do everything they can to help you achieve your goals including college application workshops. Senior: My experience attending Akron Early College Has been extremely positive and has allowed me to get a massive head start on the next chapter in my life. Akron Early College High School or AECHS is geared towards those who will be 1st generation college students from their families. The school does accept those who don't fit this criterion but are not given priority. AECHS is a school all about community as it sets up its learners for college by integrating college classes into their high school schedule. Being located in the Polsky building, students have the opportunity to attend college classes while on campus. With the end goal for students to graduate with both a high school diploma and an associate's degree, the faculty does an amazing job of monitoring students' academic process and supporting them through it. Senior: I have been very accepted in the community at CSSM. The connections I have made with my peers and teachers have been extremely vital to my growth as a student. These connections have allowed me to participate in multiple activities that have enhanced my interest in the medical field. I can't see myself at any other school than CSSM. One of my favorite parts of CSSM is how we all come together as John Hay through our athletics department. John Hay consists of 3 separate schools so coming together for sports creates a deeper community feeling throughout the entire building. I definitely recommend giving CSSM a shot. It will definitely prepare you for a career in medicine if that is something that you are interested in. If not, other career fields are also encouraged through after school programming and our 4 pathways. If I could do it all over again, I wouldn't change a thing! Senior: Stem High school is a very good school and very well put together. This is definatly a school for those who enjoy science, technology, enginnering and math. Niche User: The very first day turned into an amazing experience, and that made me fall in love with this school. As a black girl from Africa, being around other students who understood me, and would not judge me or ask a lot of questions about my hairstyle was a big relief. Another great thing is that I did not only bound with black students but also various nationalities at the school. I got the chance to learn about other cultures as well. JMIT is amongst those schools in Cleveland, Ohio that requires students to wear uniforms but the uniform policy was not very strong and people usually showed up with regular clothes, putting them on a certain scale compared to those wearing uniforms. Other than that, this is a great school, it was my home, a very safe environment, where students, teachers work together to help students achieve their goals. Freshman: A beautiful school to go to and my experience was lovely. The teachers are really caring and really try to vibe with the students, in what I see. They really look out for the best interests in their students and treat them as their own kids once in a while. Depending on behavior is how far administration can take dicipline, though if you are a good student, so are you experiences around you. Depending on energy, it can get tiring sometimes, and from my experience, I came here during the time of COVID-19, so there are lots of differences in how teachers taught for my year. They went easy at the beginning, but do not take advantage of their kindness. The people are absolutely spectacular, funny, energetic, and friendly. Various of teachers with different personalities. The food is great as well, the lunch ladies try their best and are extremely friendly as well! Senior: After spending majortiy of High School at home due to covid, I am delighted to say my experience at Columbus Downtown High School (CDHS) has been a fresh and eye-opening experience. It has been a dream to attend CDHS to further my skills in web development and IT, and I’m glad I managed to do just that. Even though the curriculum and classes themselves could have been more challenging academically, I’ve grown and learned a lot. The CDHS experience has been lovely for me as a new student. I didn’t expect to befriend as many classmates and teachers as I have. I also didn’t expect to join a book club, bonding through blankets club, or to be a part of an all-girls group. I’m looking forward to returning to CDHS as a senior. Senior: I loved the teachers. They pushed me out of my comfort zone. They taught me very well academically, but they also taught me a lot about adult hood. I got some experience working in the office with our school secretary. She taught me so much and she helped me make a lot of after high school decisions. The school itself is great. It prepares students for work life. They installed a daily dress code that gets us in the habit of wearing uniform and looking professional on a daily basis. Junior: My time at CSA has been very positive and quite life saving. The staff is very accepting and caring towards it's students along with there being a high acceptance rate of the LGBTQ+ community. The curriculum is very basic with very few electives due to the school having core art classes that are considered your majors. It would be nice if there were more options to explore such as personal finance or anything that can prepare us for the real world financially. The school's art community is enormous with many connections to the Cleveland Orchestra, Think Box and Tri-C. The school holds rallies every so often to express the work each specified major has been working on for their period of time as well as random concerts in the cafeteria during lunch. The students are given an amazing opportunity to experience college first hand with the High Tech and CCP programs held at Tri-C and CSU which provides some students with the option to obtain their degree. Alum: Students should know that John Marshall School of Engineering provides a great platform for graduates to pursue development in their given field of interest while also attending a prestigious and well-maintained institution. Their teaching staff, resources and diversity of both alumni and subject taught will be greatly appreciated by any serious student, as well as prove useful for anyone who want to continue their education well beyond high school. The culture and administration are both exceptional, however if there was one immediate con which came to mind, it would have to be the college readiness. Because of the diversity of both classes and academics working, there are some classes which I personally found to be lacking in sufficient stock of supplies such as books, paper and etc. Again, this is likely one of the better schools one could attend in the Cleveland Municipal area.
