Senior: Davies High School is a very diverse school, with wonderful teachers. The teachers are very passionate about their work and develop close relationships with the students. They push students to perform their best. There is also numerous activities, clubs and sports to join. There is something for everyone! Senior: I have been attending Oak Grove since Kindergarten, and I feel that among the schools in the Fargo Moorhead area, Oak Grove is one of the most supportive and engrossing for their students. The activities offered are vast and the classes are challenging with teachers who are willing to walk with their students to guarantee their success. The administration of the school is incredible as well and loves to be involved with their students. Senior: I’ve been attending Shanley High-school since freshman year, and I can say for certain that I’ve loved my time there. The teachers are all willing to help you when you need it while also trying to keep you on track, and the sports are at a very high level! It is a great place to further progress your prayer life as well as it is a faith based Christian Catholic school. Of course they allow you to attend if you’re not Catholic as well. Alum: The academics are challenging if you want them to be, but for the most part are pretty easy. That being said, the teachers and curriculum are still good, and you'll learn a lot, just at a slower pace. There were two things I did not like about North High - the lack of diversity and the administration. There's not much that could be done regarding diversity, since the boundaries are already shifting south and soon students that live closer to South High will be feeding to North. The problem is that a lot of students live in an upper-middle class white bubble and seem to forget the privilege that lifestyle brings. The administration at North always bothered me, although I never had a means to speak up about it. One issue getting brought up by one student or teacher seems to spark the interest of the administration, leading them to overreach and try to solve "problems" that were never really problems, often through authoritarian means.... Freshman: Century High is a very inclusive school! Ranging from an all-inclusive program to advanced studies and dual credit to help guide your path leading to college. In my experience attending Century, I have grown my social skills, and critical thinking, and have learned how to gain knowledge creatively. By learning from teachers how to enhance my critical thinking, I have learned how to solve real-world problems by using the scenarios given and applying them to life. I would like to see more of the scenarios given be real-world scenarios instead of something I likely will not use within my years outside of school. Instead of applying a randomly given scenario to my life, I'd like to be taught how to do taxes. I went all four years with having the chance to go on two mission trips in the Caribbean islands and a few trips out of state to historical places, or for extracurricular activities. Sophomore: It a great school where I have made a lot of best friends and teachers are pretty cool here. I join this school at my sophomore year as usual I was nervous and excited to meet new friends and all. But it went pretty good, didn’t even feel like I am out at schools. Senior: Kindred High School has a great environment, but some of the management is biased and often uses favoritism to get close to students. For example, the Phy Ed teachers favor the sporty kids over the less-sporty kids. The English teachers tend to favor the artsy students over those less artsy. This results in a large gap between certain students and teachers, thus cliques are created not only between peers but also between the management and students. The educational program is good but could be so much better. It lacks the ability to properly ready seniors for college, but I've discovered there are not many high schools that succeed in this area. The sports programs are favored highly over the arts resulting in lower funding for the arts. Many times, sports students will be excused more happily than those who are gone from school for art programs. The school is remote and therefore pretty safe. Alum: I really enjoyed my educational experience at St. Mary's. I felt that I received a quality education while attending. However, since my school was so small, there were not many opportunities for dual-credit and AP courses. All of the teachers were very supportive and willing to help students with their course work, and life in general. I would like to see more opportunities to take college level classes for future students. High School Senior: If I could go through high school all over again at Barnes County North, I would in a heart beat. The community is small, so you know everything and everyone, which is a plus. Everyone gets along, so bullying isn't a problem, which is rare in schools today. Since there isn't many people at my school, the classes are rather small, which is a educational bonus, more 1-on-1 time with teachers. Somethings that make our school unique, besides that fact I have less than twenty-five kids in my class, is that you have a personal relationship with the staff, so if you ever need someone to talk too, you don't have any hesitation to go talk about your problems with, which is very comforting. My favorite experience at Barnes County North, is coming to school every morning and being greeted by smiling faces of everyone, like we are all one big family, motivating each other for a positive future. ... Senior: My high school years were great! The teachers and administrators were very helpful. We were offered numerous dual credit classes that could be taken during our junior and senior years. The only frustrating aspect was that in-school attendance was not available during the COVID-19 pandemic. Online school/classes were ok. I feel that, given the short timeframe to have an online curriculum established, our administration/teachers did the best that they could. Our school was fortunate, in that once school resumed for the 2020-2021 school year, students were given the option of in-class or distance learning. Personally, I feel that I learn better when I'm in a classroom setting, rather than at home. Not only are there distractions, but I felt that my daily routine was not what it should be. Junior: I’ve been going to this school since kindergarten, and this fall will be in the 11th grade. I’ve learned many things here, not only academically, but also important life lessons and experiences. There are many things I’ve enjoyed including great teachers and staff, the opportunity to be involved in sports and other extra-curricular activities, the fitness center, and the amazing community. The extra-curricular activities and sports I’ve been or will be involved in are softball, volleyball, cross country, theater, FCCLA, SADD, FBLA, FCA, math-counts, JETS, NHS, class officer, band, and academic challenge. Some things I’d like to see change is a better balance between sports and other activities such as theater or FCCLA. The school spends a lot more time and money on sports than these other activities, so it would be nice for them to each have equal recognition.
