Senior: Newman is a small private school with a high tuition cost, and because of that, diversity is lacking. But that comes with the territory, and you would face this issue at any private school in Nola. That being said, as a woman of color, I have always felt safe and cared for here, as they does their best to encourage diversity and inclusion. (let it be known that POC students at Newman have very different experiences and the same can't be said for everyone) On the other hand, the school offers amazing opportunities and great academics for students. It's a community in every sense of the word, helping students build relationships and achieve academic excellence with the guidance of their teachers. Each student can feel individually supported and inspired to do their best, and even though Newman isn't perfect, the positives out weigh the negatives by a lot, and compared to other schools in New Orleans, I'm confident in saying that this is the best. Sophomore: I'm in my 5th year at Haynes and I love it! The teachers genuinely care and form real connections with their students. The work is hard, but it really does prepare us for college and exam season. Our school offers many AP and College-level courses, like engineering through LSU curriculum. Academic clubs, like mock trials and academic games, and STUCO are the only clubs that are really active by the second semester. If you are like me and don't like academic clubs, then there aren't many opportunities to bulk up your college resume. Junior: As a student that attends Patrick F. Taylor Science and Technology academy, I believe that this school and its staff put education at the forefront of everything they do. Since it is a science and technology school, there are ample resources that can propel its students to excellence when it comes to science and technology matters. When it comes to extracurricular activities, PFTSTA funds the clubs by having different fundraisers specifically made for certain clubs. Sports is definitely not a priority, although they just built a new gym for basketball games and volleyball games. Alum: I am an alum of the class of 2021. I attended Episcopal for 7 years. I switched from Episcopal from a highly rated public school. The facilities at Episcopal are unmatched by other high schools both academic and athletic. While the facilities are unbelievable, Episcopal is made special by the of the staff of the students. Everything I experienced at Episcopal was amazing with the exception of the administration. The administration does not think through a lot of decisions and is not respected by the students and a lot of parents because of the incompetence. Other than the current administration tearing down what previous administrations have built alongside a great community of students and alumni, the school is unmatched by any high school in the area and a lot of universities.... Alum: I really liked going here! I attended this school from second grade until I graduated high school, and I wouldn't change it for the world. I love the friends I made, and the school spirit. The only issues I would say are: the deans and administration are not on your side and want to punish people. Detentions are handed out left and right, dress code is beyond strict, and seniors do not get any privileges. Despite all of this, finding a good of people at this school will get you through the day, and you will love Willow. Senior: Attending Baton Rouge Magnet High School has allowed me ample opportunity to make a name for myself on a national level in terms of having the necessary resources available to strengthen my academic merit status. Attending a school with students from all over the globe with a mixture of socioeconomic backgrounds, religious beliefs, genders, and ethnicities was an absolute privilege. The diversity displayed at this school has opened my eyes to the beauty cloaked under humanity's differences. Freshman: I've been going to this school for 12/13 years now, and I'm in the 9th grade. This school has been an amazing experience! I have had fun making friends with the girls in my grade. The best part is the traditions, such as conge (faire), may crowning, and cache cache (hide and seek), that come with being a Sacred Heart student. If you plan on attending this school, it would be an amazing choice. The teachers are amazing! Alum: Very nice school to attend. The Arts Department is very talented and well funded as well! You are bound to grow here and find a place where you'll belong. Junior: I don’t you’d get the academic opportunities that you get here anywhere else across the state of Louisiana. The amount of standardized test prep a student will receive here is unlike any other. There’s a reason we have so many nation merit scholars and ACT 30+ students. We came from several years at another private school in the area, and as much as I adore our previous school, there is nothing comparable to a Sacred Heart education!
