Senior: Yuma Catholic High School is a great school that appreciates all its students. They offer scholarships and have great resources for students to prepare for college. The counselors in this school are extremely reliable and will help you with anything you may need. Their staff are all with great experience on their subject and truly show passion when they are teaching. The school also focuses on their spirit by having the student council host pep rallies and students can be extremely supportive during sporting events. Another thing this school prioritizes is the students’ involvement in their community. For that reason they are required a certain amount of service hours in order to graduate in order to learn about independence and organization. Throughout the four years I have been in this school, I had a great experience and met some of the most wonderful people that I have ever met. Cibola is the only high school I have been to, so it is difficult to measure it against other high schools because I have not attended them. Senior: As a current senior at Gila Ridge Highschool, I can say that this school has made me feel understood and protected for the four years I have spent here. Though I did spend my first two years almost completely online, the school did a fantastic job of making sure that each and every student would still engage with school and academics. As you come onto the campus, you'll see the true beauty that this school holds. Gila Ridge offers a wide range of academics starting with your normal high school classes to honor classes, AP classes, and even dual enrollment classes for those who want to get a head start on college! Every teacher that I have had at this school has kept me on task and has shown that they teach with a purpose. Gila ridge offers a variety of sports, clubs, and organizations. For my four years of learning here, I have never felt unsafe at one point, (as we do have many security guards here looking out for each student.) Alum: Since Antelope is a really small high school, you get to know most of the students there, you also get the chance to get involved in school activities such as clubs, sports, and other school events. Also, during the time I was there, I noticed that there was not any kind of bullying there, everybody was friends with everybody, it was like a big family. What I like the most during school events is the spirit week, they do this at least twice a year. I like the fact that every day there is a different concept. Alum: Yuma High had a really close community with a smaller number of students. You get more individualized attention from teachers and the teachers there really want you to learn and achieve higher education. While it doesn't offer as many unique clubs there is a large emphasis on certificate programs and trades in both optional classes you can take and extracurriculars. While it has always struggled to have a lot of funding due to its low student body, the community, culture, and emphasis on higher education, the arts, and trades make it a worthwhile school and one of the best in Yuma County.... Senior: San Luis High School has really good resources. The art clases and music provide you with really good materials and great teachers. You'll learn alot from them. Most teachers are great, they do their very well, they assist you and teach very well. A few just give you assignments without teaching and I think that that doesn't help us learn. It has really good resources because they help you to graduate. For instance if you failed a class you can recover your credit by completing a course online. There is very few parent involvement. They prepare you for college very well. There are many club and activities that you can participate and they are all very fun. They also have a lot of sports and you can participate whichever you like. San Luis High School is a very safe place. Administration is well organized and everything has order. Parent: This is an inaccurate description of the school. It is preschool through 12th. The high school specialized in dual enrollment at the local junior college. It is smaller, with around 100 students, but that is because they specifically limit their classroom sizes to offer a small student-to-teacher ratio. My son was a graduate there. It's probably not for every student because of the size but their curriculum is geared towards mastery-based learning which means students cannot move on to new concepts without mastering current concepts. And each student is diagnosed at enrollment to determine their level of concept mastery so that they can fill in any missing gaps. It's a really great approach to education with a small, closed campus that excels in small classrooms, no bullying, no equalizing students and nurturing students who have experienced issues in public school settings.
