I have attended Collegiate since preschool, and I am forever amazed at the level of care and dedication each and every teacher and faculty member possesses. The school provides a positive learning environment and boundless opportunities for its students. Not only does Collegiate have stellar academics, but they also have so many other experiences to enrich the life of each and every student- whether they are in preschool or a senior in high school! Senior: I truly enjoyed attending Andover Central. Throughout my 4-years of attending the school, I always felt welcomed and knew there were people behind my back whether it be the staff and faculty or even my own friends. The school made me enjoy my time as a high schooler and I would not have wanted to go to any other school. Freshman: The small environment creates an opportunity for students to form better relationships with the majority of their classmates. Teachers are very friendly and you can have more one-on-one instruction time. Teachers care more about your understanding of a topic rather than just learning the material to do well on a test. Alum: Being a student at Kapaun Mt. Carmel High School was very interesting. I had some of the best times there but also some of the worst. I would say a big plus of the school is the small student population. There is definitely a sense of community there and I never felt alone. A negative point of the school was the blatant racism from some of the students and the lack of action from administration. I understand that not every bad act can be caught and reprimanded but at least some can and I did not see much initiative in those moments from the adults in the building. Senior: The best part of my high school experience has been with extra curriculars. I am a part of cheer, speech and debate, and have also participated in track and choir. All of these programs are amazing. One of the worst parts of my high school experience has been with funding for certain cirriculars. With cheer specifically many of the athletes have to self fund which excludes many people from the sport. Whereas sports like football receive much more funding. Even a program like the speech and debate team, which has been very successful over the years, is running out of money and is turning to fund raiser to send the team to nationals.... Senior: I really like MHS. All the teachers are caring and want you to do well. They will help you with any questions you have and even spend time one on one over materials that you may not fully understand. There are also a lot of clubs and extracurricular activities to participate in. There is bound to be something you will enjoy. Besides the basic required classes, there are also other elective classes you can choose from such as music, arts, woodworking, sewing, cooking, and many more. Senior: Dead Poet's Society Club was not your typical after school club. It was a place where Bishop Carroll students could connect with each other in an emotionally safe environment. We discussed books, movies, blogs, songs, art, and various other pop culture hot topics. The club has expanded beyond the borders of our school into our community. Members met at various locations in our community like the library, movie theater and museums. Difficulties at school arose for me concerning bullying, I did learn how to advocate for myself. Senior: Derby is a wonderful school with its ups and downs, I would prefer if Derby would change their policies or get more involved with students so nothing terrible can happen again (for example, the grenade threat!). If they could change their attitudes about specific courses and lend them some more money they could be better than what they are now! For example, they do not give the art departments enough money to buy or fix anything that they need compared to any sports team/department. If they took some money from the sports team and gave some to the art departments they would be so much better! Senior: I always felt safe in Goddard High School, and though there are definitely some things that need to be fixed, overall I have had a good experience. I love how there are a multitude of ways to get involved in the school, such as clubs and student leadership organizations. I enjoyed being an ambassador in my Junior year and helping underclassmen navigate through high school. I also got involved with marketing classes that allowed me to organize football and basketball games. Most of the teachers I have met are genuinely good people who care about their students' well-being. Resources for classes are almost always provided and help is available to those who need it. If students have trouble with a specific teacher they can usually find aid or talk to a counselor about the problem. It is a predominantly white school but diversity is definitely not frowned upon or discouraged. Senior: I transferred to Sunrise Christian in August of 2019. My previous school experience was absolutely horrific. I was anxious about starting a new school in my junior year, no friends, harder academics, etc. I joined the volleyball team and instantly all my fears vanished. I became friends with some of the most amazing girls ever! The welcome didn't end on the volleyball court. Everyone from faculty and staff to students was so inviting and genuine it made the whole process extremely easy. I am now a senior and have grown both academically and spiritually. Senior: Wichita Northwest is a good school. Kids are safe, no visible threats, clean hallways, great community and positive reviews from students. However there are a few struggles that some students share about their teachers not helping them learn enough. Not all teachers are perfect but they believe that there are better teaching methods. Junior: My experience at Halstead high school has been short since I am a new student however, it is an amazing school with high school spirit. Although, they do struggle with some student support and how the school doesn’t know how to keep their students involved in their school and having low school spirit and dances aren’t as fun as they could be or how spirit weeks they could do more to make them more entertaining. So, Halstead is a good small town school with high hopes for each team but, could do more with school spirit and dances. Also, I love the scheduling and how it’s just like college and how we have breaks during the day and how we get the time to think and do our homework and how the teacher are relax and treat you like humans and not like students and give you time to do things during school and after school.
