Senior: Brandon Valley was extremely understanding and inclusive toward its students. The district provided everyone with amazing opportunities to help in nearly every aspect of life. Being both a fine arts member and athlete I felt that the school district put a genuine emphasis on the importance of both during my time there. Mental health was also a major factor during high school and the awareness and thought that much of the faculty put into it was highly appreciated. Brandon Valley is a highly accredited school for a reason, the school was a positive environment without being lackadaisical with their rules and how they need to be followed. Overall I would recommend any parent who may be on the fence about where to send their child to school to look into the home of the lynx and really appreciate their attention to what may seem like the little things that improve on the little things in education. Senior: Crowded hallways, short passing periods, and packed parking lots would be the main negative aspects about my school. However, my schools environment is very welcoming. Alum: Washington High School was a great place to go to high school at. It has one of the most diverse groups of people at in the Midwest. If I remember correctly, there are over 30 languages spoken at Washington High School on a daily basis. The people there are nice. There's a lot of different options as a student there to get involved within the community. There's tons of different student clubs you can join ranging from the arts to DECA to quiz bowl to yoga club and many more! They have a lot of opportunity to take challenging classes that will help you succeed in the academic realm as well. I took a lot of AP classes that gave me college credits once I graduated. I highly recommend either those or dual credit courses you can take through the school to anyone looking to further their education once they graduate high school. Alum: I took the hardest classes I could throughout all 4 years of high school. Since I graduated this year, I have yet to experience college. However, high school to me was quite exciting. Going to class everyday inspired me to learn as much as I could. The teachers are great at teaching and are amazing mentors. I enjoyed not just the academics, but also events that the school hosted and the extracurriculars that school made available. I participated in clubs such as DECA, HOSA, SALSA, Track, Student Council, Chess Club, Spanish Club, NHS, SNHS, and NHD, where I made many life-long friends. Senior: Hills-Beaver Creek is the school district I have gone to my whole life. This school has always felt like a second home. There are many things to love and enjoy about this school. Every teacher in the school shows you love, just like you're one of their own children. They let you know when you have done the wrong thing, but they also tell you they are proud of you when you've done the right thing. The kids in the school are amazing as well. Although bullying does happen sometimes, it's very rare that it gets out of hand. Everyone in the school is kind to each other. Although the many great points out-weigh the bad, there are a few things I would change. I wish the younger class men still showed respect to the older class men. Alum: Great School! I started in kindergarten all the way through graduation. Small and personal classes, comfortable and laid back atmosphere, teachers and staff are amazing. I enjoyed the time I spent at Baltic. There is many advantages and disadvantages when it comes to attending a small high school. The positives are that the class sizes are small which leads to more personal learning. Each student will get attention that will help them strive. Senior: Tea Area is very good with helping their students with problems they may have. There are a lot of connections and possibilities that are available to you. Parent: Sioux Falls Christian has been and continues to be an excellent school for our children. It has been a commitment financially for us to choose this and it has been worth every penny. The staff and admin truly care about students, their families, the culture and it's academics. This school really nails so many of the key important aspects of what a great school should provide. Raising children is hard and it does take a village. I'm so glad that this school and the people in it are my village. I've never experienced a school that is perfect and SFC isn't either but what I love is that they continually strive to provide a Christ-centered education and fulfill their mission to "Love, Grow, and Go Glorify" while offering a high standard of academic excellence. Senior: My experience at Dell Rapids St. Marys has been interesting to say the least. I transferred from a different school going into second grade, and was instantly welcomed by the students and teachers. The low enrollment has allowed me to build relationships with just about everyone in the school. I have appreciated every moment that I have experienced here, and consider myself very lucky for being able to surround myself with such amazing people. While I know many people consider high school to be dreadful, I would be willing to do it all again in a heartbeat. Senior: Most of my 12 year experience with West Central was a blast. It was a very small school in a small town, so everyone knew everybody. I made plenty of friends growing up and was given a variety of of new experiences throughout my journey. There were tons of classes that interested me as well as helped me out in the real world. Parent: Our family has been at Sioux Falls Lutheran School for 5 years now, and it has been a wonderful blessing. Because the school is rooted in the local LCMS churches, we feel confident in the Biblical teachings and love that our kids see their teachers, pastors, and friends not just at school but also at church on Sundays. My husband and I were not sure initially if we could afford it, but we talked to the school's administration and they were so welcoming and explained all the ways that we could receive help with the tuition to make it affordable for our family. The Lord makes a way! Our kids come home singing wonderful songs of faith and Jesus' love, they tell of all the cool things they learn about regarding God's awesome creations, and they learn to deal with the difficulties of this world in a loving, Biblical way. Senior: I’ve really enjoyed my experience while attending Jefferson high school. Joining the Sioux Falls school district in 2021, after moving from MN was a big change, but I was welcomed into the school with open arms. Some of my favorite teachers and staff members throughout my education have been at Jefferson. The school itself is beautiful, the policies are well thought out, and fair, students and staff are treated with respect by the administration, and there is a wide variety of classes, and extracurricular opportunities for all students.
