Senior: Overall, I really enjoyed my time at Genesee Early College. I think that the teachers there were great and pushed me to work harder and really got me ready for college. I will say that the work was hard but the teachers were there to support you when you needed it, you could even come in for free torturing after school if you needed it. Because of this school I have been taking real college classes since I was 16 at U of M - Flint. I have grown so much as a student and as a person in the last 5 years and have meet some amazing people. They only thing is that because of what type of school it is and the small size of it, there are no sports teams for the high school. Alum: I did love the teachers in the school they always wanted to see you succeed. They would try to help you the best they could whether that was by coming in during lunch or even staying after school. The sports were very fun to attend. Everyone would cheer and hype you up for everything, they always gave you confidence. The only problem I would say is that you have to cross between campuses outside like a college which I would say does get you prepared but it's not fun in the winter. Senior: I have been attending Genesee Christian School since K-4 till present day and have grown very fond of the environment it has put me in. Ever since my first day I have always thought of how nice all of the teachers are and how they are always willing to help struggling students in or out of the classroom. Growing up at Genesee Christian in high school has been a great experience. Sometimes you will hear about how kids are getting nervous for their ¨first day of high school¨ but going to Genesee Christian did not seem like that to me. Ever since 9th grade I have always felt like my teachers have cared about me and cared that I learn the material for the class. Especially being in my senior year taking two AP math classes along with physics my teachers are still there for us in making sure we understand what we are being taught and if we have any questions they do not hesitate to go through the problems with you. Senior: New Lothrop High School is a very small community. My graduating class has only 65 kids! New Lothrop, although small, has an impressive athletic resume. We've won 25 state championships in a wide variety of sports in the state of Michigan. We have 16 state championships in wrestling, 3 state championships in volleyball, 2 state championships in basketball, 3 state championships in football, and 1 state championship in baseball! Besides our athletics, we also score in the top of our county academically. Our teachers truly care about each and every one of their students, and they even take the time to get to know us! It makes coming to school a lot easier everyday knowing your teachers care about you. Every year our top students go to some of the best colleges in the country. Senior: Been at Brandon High School for 4 years, and I’ve picked up on a few things. The people are pretty welcoming and kind. Teachers are always helpful and will do their best to ensure you are successful. Many programs push for involvement, and you can tell the school really wants what’s best for the students. The environment is nice, every class and facility is close by and easily accessible. Only around 700 students, so you are more likely to get valuable help from your teacher. My favorite part of my four years here was how close I got to a lot of my friends. I Moved to Brandon in eight grade and was scared of how things would go, but I truly think it couldn’t have gone any better. I love the community surrounding the school, and wouldn’t have wanted to go anywhere else for my four years of high school. Senior: Fenton Area Public Schools, especially Fenton Senior High School is one of the best school districts in our area. It has a variety of activities, clubs, sports, and academic opportunities for students. Some of the sports they provide go unnoticed like Girls and Boys Varsity Swim & Dive, Girls Varsity Swim have competed and won 19 consecutive Metro Leagues. Also, Girls' Varsity and JV bowling have gone unnoticed in our school, and the girls work really hard to win tournaments and go to regionals and states. Senior: During my time at Birch Run High School, I have made countless connections and close relationships with those around me and have made so many great memories that have shaped me into the person I am today. All of the teachers and administration care about you greatly and they make that known with the way they talk to students and how they go out of their way to help them. They want to know about your personal life, personality, and well-being and this creates an overall very tight-knit, safe, and caring learning environment for all. I have gone to Birch Run schools my entire life and have never wanted to be anywhere else, it feels like a home away from home. My mom had even taught at the elementary school for 30 years and I loved all of the late nights helping in her classroom and the memories my siblings and I made playing around the school and the playground after hours. Senior: FHS..Oh man. Back when I was a Freshman, in the fall of 2019, I had thought that high school was intimidating and going to be extremely long. I had two older brothers who previously graduated from Flushing High School and were happy with the years they spent there. My Freshman and Sophomore years were affected greatly by the Covid 19 Pandemic. My experience was surely unique and something that I'll never forget. I remember sitting in one of my Freshman classes and thinking, "man, these are going to be the longest four years of my life." Now, with just over a month left before I graduate, I ask myself, "where did all the time go?" It just flew by. When I reflect upon my experience at FHS, I am able to recount memories I hadn't remembered in a long time, and think how lucky I was to meet the amazing people I did. Junior: My high school experience has been unique. The best times throughout high school were when I was involved. I am involved in the National Honor Society and my sports: volleyball, basketball, softball, and girl's flag football. I had brought up my interest in flag football after my junior powderpuff game; little did I know later that year Holly would be in the first four for girl's flag football in the state of Michigan. Although the girl's flag football season is over, the experiences that were made and that will continue to come were unforgettable. The worst parts of my high school experience were the Covid years when everything was altered and I didn't get to fulfill the authentic high school experience. Personally, I would like to see my school be more focused on the mental side of students. Senior: My experience at Goodrich High School was the best it could have been. I loved how the school wasn’t too big, and each grade had around 160 students, making it a relatively smaller school. Taking this into consideration, each classroom had anywhere from 10-30 students, allowing better focus in class and every teacher knew their students beyond just a number in class. I also enjoyed how friendly the community was at Goodrich, and everyone was a familiar friendly face, which made it easy to make friends and get along with everyone. Alum: This school was not very diverse, most of the students were white and flexed their parents money. The teachers were all very knowledgeable and usually very understanding. Occasionally you would run into a bad teacher, but they were only poor at their job because they were not suited for that department or they were facing burnout. The school excels in the music department. Athletics are very fun to participate in, and well funded/supported by the students. The women’s basketball and volleyball team are very good. There were plenty of opportunities to succeed and lots of adults willing to help you achieve your goals. The administration wasn’t the best at handling severe issues, were lackluster with some specific problems with bullying. Senior: I've been a student at Davison community schools since 1st grade. I would say 1st grade through 10th grade the diversity was below average, and the white students treated others with hostility sometimes. They did this through racist comments and actions. You would tell the school they wouldn't do anything to help, just ask some follow up questions after the incident report or if your mom called up there. Recently, it has been a lot of new transfers bringing up the diversity but now Davison schools have added more rules then they have had in previous years. Freshman: Mott community college is a great start to a college degree! The professors there are enthusiastic about their jobs and really want you to succeed. The knowledge you grow to learn is abundant and relevant to the field of study. The campus itself has great diversity and welcomes everyone. The safety on campus is well maintained by the security teams allowing students escorts to their vehicles if needed. The student atmosphere is great and positive, many friendly people to meet on campus. They have multiple offsite locations to enhance your learning close to your home. They also offer online courses for general education classes as well as some programs. The college although in the heart of flint is well maintained and lit to make those doing night classes feel secure while campus. The course work is well organized and accommodating for working individuals who need the time to do both working and school at the same time.
