Alum: I made some of the best friends at this school, however the faculty and staff have a very inefficient way of running this school. Most students that went there were unhappy with the discipline here, as they would invade your personal privacy. Alum: I moved to Florence in 2021 right before my junior year. I was born and raised in Huntsville so I was not at all excited to move to a smaller town. I went into my junior year with such a negative view on the town and school and I vowed to never make friends. I think that vow was in respect of my best friends in Huntsville and also a reflection of how I viewed myself. I didn’t want to meet any new people because I didn’t want them to meet me. Of course, I met so many new people, teachers, and best friends. My senior year was great. I felt accepted in a place where I myself did not want to be accepted. I was apart of a big, loving friend group and I made such great connections with teachers. I felt I was presented with a lot more opportunities academics wise and I felt a majority of the people I went to school with genuinely wanted to succeed which is something my school in Huntsville definitely lacked. Senior: Wilson High School is a single campus, Pre-K-12 school, where everyone gets to know each other. As someone who has attended Wilson since Pre-K, I can confirm that the faculty and staff genuinely care about their students and want to see them succeed. If there is one thing that I could change about Wilson, it would be to have a Creative Arts class. There are many gifted students that currently have no outlet for their creativity. Senior: The student involvement in the community is excellent. Every month the community service, religious clubs, and organizations plan something for the whole student body to do. From National Encouragement Day to cook outs, they cover it all! Something I'd like to see changed is some of the handbook rules. Senior: I've had an amazing time at Brooks High school. Between my school life, outside life, and my sports life the friends and memories I've made are incredible. Being on varsity as a sophomore and hanging around with the older kids made me mature a lot faster and have a blast and now I am in their shoes. We went to the final four and elite eight back to back years and our football team went fifteen and one. The athletics are very good, but with athletics comes the band and our band is phenomenal. Then school as far as education goes is pretty good. There have been many alumni that have come through with 4.0 GPAs and high ACT scores. Most teachers here genuinely care about their students and how they are doing with school and life. Our facility members just like our teachers and staff are the best. I also feel pretty safe with our resource officer on campus, and everyone loves her. Brooks is a school that I wasn't sure would win me over at first, but it's grown on me in every aspect.... Senior: My name is Alyster Hamrick, and I am from Florence, Alabama. After many years of walking the halls at Rogers High School, it is finally my senior year. I have had many great experiences at Rogers. Some of my top highlights in high school have been being named Miss Pirate Beauty 2023, being selected to be on Prom Committee, being inducted into the National Honor Society, and being inducted into the BETA Club. Also, I have enjoyed being a high school cheerleader as well as being in the Key Club and on the Yearbook Staff. I would not change much about the school except for the lunches. I eat school lunch, and it can be either good or not good at all. Although I might end the day with a belly ache, I am still thankful for all the hard work the lunch ladies put into making the food. I will never forget my classmates or teachers. With the supportive environment at Rogers, I have decided to continue my academic career. Parent: Waterloo is the most wonderful place for families. Most people here are hardworking, friendly, and kind. My child is thriving and loves this school. There are very few discipline issues and staff members have high expectations for students. All students have opportunities to participate in sports, clubs, and extracurricular activities. WHS is part of the Lauderdale County School District and they currently participate in a 1:1 Chromebook Initiative, which means every student in grades 7-12 has a device provided by the school system. Waterloo is a great small town and the community supports the school. The campus is situated in one of the most beautiful areas on the banks of the Tennessee River. The needs of children are the first priorities of the adults at Waterloo. Teachers and staff here are passionate and dedicated to their students and the community.
