Alum: Obviously a high school experience is dependent on a variety of factors, but I truly believe that Bedford High School cares about its students. The teachers are kind and accessible; there are numerous opportunities for extracurricular involvement; and the school itself is enrolled in a variety of large competitions/etc. for students -- if a student works hard enough, they'll easily find that BHS has a lot to offer, especially as a public school. The only issue is with administration, which primarily operates under the reactionary shadow of aggressive parents, making it hard to see long-lasting change of any sort, and also preventing students from really getting involved in their curriculum-based/formal education.... Niche User: I really liked how the teachers interacted with their students and got to learn a lot of important aspects such as biology, us and world history, art, and algebra. The teachers were wonderful, the academics were top tier, and the safety and infrastructure were great as well. The layout was easy to understand and the peers there were great to work with, while the activities were efficient and easy to go over, while my favorite subjects there were art, history, and biology because of how the subjects were taught. Senior: Bow High School has been an amazing experience. The teaching is amazing, some of the teachers I had at the school, I will keep in touch with for the rest of my life. The sports have been great, and I've learned a lot throughout them. They do a tremendous job helping students graduate and get ready for college/tech school, or whatever they plan to do in their future. The food and facilities are great too. The only place where it lacks is in diversity. As an Gay Athlete, I am part of a very small group at Bow. Obviously Bow cannot create diversity, but I think they could try to do a better job adding diversity into the curriculum. Alum: I enjoyed my experience at Souhegan High School. As a recently graduated student, I can confidentially say that this school and the staff are eager to help you achieve your future goals all while maintains a fun, friendly, and sustainable environment. Some of the best parts of my experience included certain courses such as global citizenship as well as marine biology in which I took my senior year as these two courses helped me build more of an interest in the world around me. Along with classes, having free periods is nice too. Souhegan sets you up for free time throughout your first three years of high school by making it so most people can knock out needed credits allowing time for free periods or classes that you want to take for fun but aren’t required. Overall, I believe that Souhegan high school is a good school in which not only prepares you for the future but also teaches you things you can do to be a better citizen, person, and learner.... Senior: Overall, my experience at Bishop Guertin High School has been amazing, not only for furthering my academic knowledge but bringing me friendships with many that will last a lifetime. On the positive side of Bishop Guertin, the teachers are extremely knowledgeable and always have pushed me hard, no matter the subject, putting me in a far better place for my future than those attending public schools. In addition, I have always been held to a very high standard while at Bishop Guertin High School, which leads to the fact that I am well-prepared for my college years and all of my future endeavors. On the negative side of Bishop Guertin High School, there is almost too much homework and assessments as it becomes very overwhelming. Senior: Concord High School has provided me with many opportunities not only in the classroom, court/field, but also in the community as well. Concord High offers a vast variety of courses to fit an individuals needs and interests. I am very passionate about science and I have taken a lot of science classes with a lot of different teachers. All of the teachers that I have worked with have the students best interest as their number one priority. I have never not received help when I needed it. Teachers are always trying to meet your needs as a student for enrichment or remediation. Concord High has all of the major sports and a great support system surrounding the teams. Administration and faculty are always at our games and want to support the students out of the classroom. Senior: I have been a student in the Gilford, NH school system since Kindergarten and couldn't imagine being anywhere else but in this school community. I have had great teachers who care about their students and go the extra mile to encourage them to do their best to reach their potential. We have parents who play an active role in offering help and voice their opinions when important decisions need to be made that will benefit the students. We have a very strong anti-bulling policy that protects us all and have staff with whom we can discuss any problems or issues that arise during the school year. Senior: Coe Brown has provided an excellent learning environment in my past 4 years as a CBNA student. The teachers are excellent, and give every student the enrichment and encouragement a person needs to grow academically. Senior: Overall, Pinkerton has so many opportunities for types of classes and extracurriculars. There is a pathway for everyone, whether it is the numerous CTE courses and dual enrollment, to the number of AP classes, and the over 100 clubs and organizations that are offered. The best part of it is the opportunity to get involved with the community and interact with so many people. I do a lot of community service, so getting to know administration, making change and conducting fundraisers for local organizations, to even mentoring freshmen and new students, I have certainly learned and observed a lot about all different types of people. The most difficult part is the diversity, because there are not many initiatives to be inclusive towards racial diversity. As a person of color, I have struggled with comments towards my skin, to the food I eat, and to fitting in within classes. Senior: Plymouth Regional High School is a great school with a lot of opportunities for everyone with every identity. There is an incredible athletic program, and while we don't win a lot of games, our individual sport teams (Cross country, track, skiing, wrestling, etc) have had amazing successes, like others as well. Non athletically I would say a majority of teachers are extremely supportive, as they are willing to work with each student and help them in individual ways. Freshman: I am a currently freshman at HBHS, and I will admit I haven't entirely liked it. The school's entire culture is passed off as we are "snobby spoiled whites" which to a fair point is very true. Compared to other public schools in Nashua, or Amhearst the school takes too much pride in the high quality of grades they get on PSATS, SATS, and state-required tests. The dress code is never reinforced by the teachers, or administration causing girls to wear very revealing clothes at times to dances, and just every day. Its very hard for independent students who prefer to work alone, and or want to be alone due to there shyness, or social awkwardness are never looked at brightly. I am a loner who left 2 different friend groups, and many of us are looked as outcasts. When I try to interact with any of the teachers, subs, or students they give me awkward stares as if though I'm an alien. Senior: Hopkinton high school is a school where everyone gets along with each other just like family. It is located in a small town named Contoocook and many people have known each other for such a long time. This brings out the quality of genuine love and support towards each other and especially the sports teams in Hopkinton high school. Many parents attend games even when it is very far away which allows the teams to get pumped up to play! Graduated students come to support the athletes whenever they can as well. Senior: While Hanover High School may not be the best in the nation, it is a fantastic public school that gives students rigorous learning opportunities and allows us to excel, and also gives us a safe environment. I have had a good experience with other students and faculty, and (from the perspective of a Black LGBTQ+ student) people are accepting and open-minded. I have never had a bad teacher here and have truly enjoyed the classroom environment some of them have provided. Meetings with supportive counselors helped me through the college search and application process. And the friends I have met here are great! Our school building is well-maintained and our facilities are great, with spaces for people to hang out or work quietly. One of my favorite spots to be with friends is the often-unoccupied photo classroom tucked away in the art department. (We are pretty introverted and don’t like the loud atrium or cafeteria!) Junior: Holderness has changed me for the best in my life in so many ways, the social development, the lessons I learned, the amazing people I met all are things things that I credit holderness too. Most of the faculty is amazing, but of course there are some bad apples. Hazing with freshmen do happen in some dorms (not all of them) and some dorm parents in those dorms seem not to care when it happens, but for me I loved the small dorms and my dorm parents. The kids at Holderness are different from other schools. Holderness kids are much more humble and carry themselves like they are more than just prep kids. Just genuine people who care about everybody no matter if you’re friends or not. Teachers care very deeply about their students and will go out of their way to help them if they are struggling. Academic facility’s are top notch but the athletic facility does need work. Drugs and alcohol are things on campus (obviously) but it isn’t big and nobody pressures people to make those decisions.... Senior: Overall, I don’t have much to complain about. My experience with the school itself has actually been wonderful. The newly renovated building is gorgeous and comfortable, and some of the classes offered here have opportunities that don’t exist at other schools. Our CTE programs are incredible. I’ve also loved the majority of my teachers, the guidance department, and the other support systems at SHS. Of course, there are always ways to improve. Junior: My experience for the most part has been positive. I haven't been bullied, I enjoy the classes, and I am motivated to participate in extracurricular activities. My only negative experiences were with group projects and moving through the hallways. In a previous class that I didn't have friends in, we were expected to make our own groups for group projects -- this would be awkward for me because everyone else got into groups with their friends. Moving through the hallways is sometimes a struggle because large groups of people enjoy standing around in hallway intersections so they can talk. Alum: My school was fairly good for a high school. In terms of administration, it was far from perfect. When COVID hit, it was a mess, and nobody (students or teachers) was happy. However, now that I'm in college, looking back at my high school education, my school did a better job at teaching us necessary scholarly skills such as essay-writing than some of my peers' high schools. My entry-level college writing course was incredibly easy for me because of the quality of my education in high school.
