Alum: Some things that I liked from this school was the wide range in academics and subjects to study. They had a variety of electives that allows students to explore their interests and potential careers. Furthermore, they are high in academic standards and do a well job in prepping students for college. Parent: We have had three kids graduate from Cretin-Derham Hall, and have a current rising sophomore. We have loved everything about CDH! Academically, our children have been challenged and extremely well prepared for college, and it has shown in their successful college performances. The administration and teachers are dedicated and insightful, and have been wonderful resources for the kids. All of our kids have participated in multiple extracurricular activities, which they have enjoyed immensely and which have made them well-rounded students. There is substantial diversity, including racial and socio-economic diversity. That has really opened all of our minds to new ways of viewing the world and its challenges and opportunities. The facilities are great, especially for a 150-year old land-locked inner city school! Our kids have always felt very safe at CDH ... it's been like a home away from home. Alum: Overall, I would say that my experience at Hopkins High School was pretty good. I unfortunately didn’t really get a full high school experience, as my sophomore year was impacted as a result of Covid. Aside from that, throughout my junior and senior year, I felt as though my teachers actually cared about me and my success. They were always willing to help, no matter the circumstance. One thing that I would like to see change is how administration chooses to prioritize issues inside the school. Senior: Nothing can truly prepare you for High school because there is no correct path. The only guarantee is that there will be good days and there will be days you would rather forget. I hope to remember my wins more frequently than my losses. One example is when I took a college level English course last year. I was convinced that I was condemning my GPA to mediocrity. However that class gave me a rare opportunity. To enjoy writing again. I always prioritize academics but the ability to freely create was an unaccustomed wonder. That class reminded me there was more to my life than grades but the pursuit of creativity. Because by this time I had already been chastised for a lack of confinement. Teachers and peers were often annoyed by my inability to stay within the targeted word limit. This disapproval only fostered a need to silence my train of thought. Senior: Rosemount High School is a great school and has many opportunities for all students of all interests. I personally love science and math and Rosemount provides many courses of science and math such as, physics, chemistry, algebra, calculus and statistics. I have taken physics, chemistry, geometry, algebra and calculus, they are all amazing classes with amazing teachers and provided me with so much learning. They also provide many courses in arts, engineering, music, computer science and much more for students who are interested in those classes. Senior: As a freshman, it would be uncommon to be completely overwhelmed with each experience, especially on the first day. While many students had transferred from the neighboring middle school and into the high school, it seemed like each person already knew everybody, which made me feel out of place. Despite the struggles I've had with my social encounters initially, the teachers and staff made it easy for me to walk through as they provided unconditional support whenever I seemed like I needed it, or when I simply asked. Because of this encouragement, I was able to find the courage to begin branching out and making new friends out of my own accord, rather than sitting and waiting for people to reach out to me instead. Parent: We have 3 children who attend MA - 2 in the Lower School, 1 in the Middle School. We moved them from a local public school in fall of 2020. Things we appreciate: 1. Ability to cater to both my straight A student AND my child who needs extra supports. 2. Teachers who know my kids. I mean truly take time to KNOW them. Our first conferences left me shedding a tear about how much they care about my kids. 3. Smaller class sizes. We all understand the importance of this. 4. I have confidence decisions from administration have been planned, thought out, etc. Even if I don’t agree 100% I do feel like they go through a due process. 5. MA is a Christian school but I don’t feel like religion is being “forced” on my kids. What could use improvement: Increase diversity - staff and student body. Alum: My experience at DeLaSalle was interesting considering that the pandemic began my freshman year, and we had to shift to distance learning. I feel like DeLaSalle handled the pandemic in the best way possible. This was an abrupt shift, but the school made it work. Then when we shifted to hybrid, then full in person, it was weird but we made it work. Senior: I started going to Eden Prairie Highschool as a junior. It was overwhelming to move from a school of 300 to 3000, but I was pleasantly surprised by how diverse the school was and how social everyone was. At first, I didn't actually care too much for the school outside of academics and graduating but with the wide array of clubs here, I found a few new interests. I'm apart of the DND club and I love it! Most clubs are completely student-run which makes it feel less like an extra class and more like a hangout to express your interests. Academic-wise, I'm actually stunned at the amount of interesting and unique classes you can be apart of. I mean, there's a whole class dedicated to historical assassinations and nothing else! Although, coming from Canada, the lack of information counselors give you about everything is kind of disappointing. Senior: My experience with Mounds View High School was very positive. It was a very great learning environment and allowed me to succeed in advanced classes. Mounds View offers many different types of classes for every type of student. Class sizes average around 25 students per class which guarantees one-on-one time with teachers. Mounds View also offers many clubs which range from athletic to academic to social. We are class AAA and our sports compete against some of the top schools in the state. Our athletic program sends many teams and athletes to state every school year in a variety of sports. I have participated in 5 different teams at Mounds View and have thoroughly enjoyed every single one. It was a great way for me to meet new friends! Senior: My overall experience at Washburn high school was fairly positive. I made many influential relationships with friends and staff that have helped me throughout my life thus far to become the person I am today. The teachers and staff at Washburn are always willing to help me when I am struggling and offer ways to plan ahead for my future. My peers and I at Washburn push each other in our academic careers and offer helping hands when we may be struggling at a task. Senior: Woodbury High School offers a variety of different extracurricular activities that I’m interested in. Through joining them, I have met like-minded peers throughout my school. These people continue to push me both emotionally and intellectually with every interaction. Overall, I find that the people, or culture, of Woodbury is really encompassing, and it offers a place for anyone. One of my qualms about WHS is their lack of funding for STEM programs. A few of their STEM activities in which I am involved in are thrust aside in favor of sports, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but the lack of focus on STEM dampens the school’s STEM potential greatly. Although Woodbury is actively trying to fix this by introducing more technical and computer focused classes, the school still remains weak in comparison to its nearby counterparts. I will say it best in that TG offers a "no distraction" learning environment where it is "cool" to get good grades. The teachers are 100% invested in these students, go the extra mile and will make sure your kid does not fall in the cracks. Every teacher knows every student's name. It is impressive.
