Senior: Bishop Carroll is an excellent highschool for anyone to attend. We have many clubs and activities for all types of people including game club, anime club, many different language clubs, art club, and more. Our sports have been very high standing throughout the history of Bishop Carroll. Not only are our sports amazing, but so are our music and arts. Our Choir always goes to contest and achieves very high scores at state. Our musicals also do very well. We have even had a lead musical role win an award as best lead role to win a full ride scholarship. Due to covid 19, it was more difficult to have many activities, but we still stood strong. Senior: Derby is a wonderful school with its ups and downs, I would prefer if Derby would change their policies or get more involved with students so nothing terrible can happen again (for example, the grenade threat!). If they could change their attitudes about specific courses and lend them some more money they could be better than what they are now! For example, they do not give the art departments enough money to buy or fix anything that they need compared to any sports team/department. If they took some money from the sports team and gave some to the art departments they would be so much better! Senior: I had an excellent experience at Cheney High School. I moved to Cheney from a bigger city in Kansas and the school was nothing but welcoming. The teachers made an effort to make sure all of their students were given the opportunity to succeed. There were a few subjects I struggled with and the teachers always made time and went out of their way to help me understand the material. The administration and staff have created quite the jubilant environment and has me looking forward to going to school. Senior: I really like MHS. All the teachers are caring and want you to do well. They will help you with any questions you have and even spend time one on one over materials that you may not fully understand. There are also a lot of clubs and extracurricular activities to participate in. There is bound to be something you will enjoy. Besides the basic required classes, there are also other elective classes you can choose from such as music, arts, woodworking, sewing, cooking, and many more. You can choose any elective classes to try out and see if you enjoy them. Overall, MHS is a great school. And I appreciate that the lunch ladies are trying out new and different varieties of food. Alum: Being a student at Kapaun Mt. Carmel High School was very interesting. I had some of the best times there but also some of the worst. I would say a big plus of the school is the small student population. There is definitely a sense of community there and I never felt alone. A negative point of the school was the blatant racism from some of the students and the lack of action from administration. I understand that not every bad act can be caught and reprimanded but at least some can and I did not see much initiative in those moments from the adults in the building. Senior: Wichita Northwest is a good school. Kids are safe, no visible threats, clean hallways, great community and positive reviews from students. However there are a few struggles that some students share about their teachers not helping them learn enough. Not all teachers are perfect but they believe that there are better teaching methods. The bathrooms are usually occupied by groups of students only to loiter or smoke. It also came to view that the dirty ceilings of the hallways or the floor under vending machines are never cleaned. Senior: Wichita East High School is a wonderful school to go to for everybody. East offers a wide variety from classes, ranging from Art History all the way to Engineering. The academics at East are phenomenal, offering an International Baccalaureate program and a handful of AP courses. East is also one of the most diverse schools in Kansas. The school spirit at East is unlike any other high school I've seen. Every football and basketball game, the student section is filled to the brim with students cheering on their team. Spirit Weeks and Pep Rallies are also a big deal here, everyone gets super into it. The one thing I will say, though, is that often times the students can be a bit disruptive, but it's fairly easy to avoid that. Senior: As a former student at North High School, I can admit that students can really be themselves in this school setting. There are numerous programs and clubs that in which a student can get themselves involved in or are interested in. Many resources are available to them by just asking the friendly staff members and faculty that are wanting to help students become successful. The school lunches are awesome! There is a second breakfast installed in case people miss the first one, which I actually appreciate since students may arrive to the school late or not want to eat breakfast first thing in the morning. And when a student may not like the food options we can leave the campus to get food from anywhere near us. The school notifies students in many opportunities that are out there for us that we don't even realize exist; like volunteering, internships, dual credit, etc. Although, a thing I would like to see at North High School is more diversity in the school.... Senior: I transferred to Sunrise Christian in August of 2019. My previous school experience was absolutely horrific. I was anxious about starting a new school in my junior year, no friends, harder academics, etc. I joined the volleyball team and instantly all my fears vanished. I became friends with some of the most amazing girls ever! The welcome didn't end on the volleyball court. Everyone from faculty and staff to students was so inviting and genuine it made the whole process extremely easy. I am now a senior and have grown both academically and spiritually. Alum: My experience at Southeast was unique because I had started off my high school journey at a different high school and had a normal year. I transferred to Southeast during my sophomore year and that just so happened to be the school year that was most affected by covid. Although covid ruined my sophomore year, the teachers and other staff did their best to help students out during those hard times. Southeast has somewhat of a bad reputation around the USD259 District but my experience there was enjoyable and not at all like how people express Southeast to be. I was very involved in the school and I was a part of numerous clubs as well as the school's cheer team. I was president of Job's For America's Graduates program and met a very influential teacher through it. She has helped me in many ways in and outside of school and even after I graduated from Southeast this past school year. I'm very thankful for all of the amazing staff at Southeast.... Senior: I always felt safe in Goddard High School, and though there are definitely some things that need to be fixed, overall I have had a good experience. I love how there are a multitude of ways to get involved in the school, such as clubs and student leadership organizations. I enjoyed being an ambassador in my Junior year and helping underclassmen navigate through high school. I also got involved with marketing classes that allowed me to organize football and basketball games. Most of the teachers I have met are genuinely good people who care about their students' well-being. Resources for classes are almost always provided and help is available to those who need it. If students have trouble with a specific teacher they can usually find aid or talk to a counselor about the problem. It is a predominantly white school but diversity is definitely not frowned upon or discouraged. Alum: West was never the perfect school, I had a lot of bad times at that school. Especially during the first few years. But my junior and senior year were some of the best times in my life that I will never forget. I met so many great friends there that I still hang out with today. And I graduated in spring of 2017.
