Aurora High School
#2 Best High School Sports in Portage County
- Aurora City School District, OH
Senior: Overall, my experience at Aurora was enjoyable. The teachers genuinely care about their student’s performance. For them, the student’s success is their success. Whenever, I struggled in a subject, I always had the opportunity to go in for extra help. The student can make private one-on-one sessions with a teacher during a free period, or he or she can stay after school and work in a group for an upcoming test. Aurora is a challenging school with many AP classes so the students are very fortunate to have this assistance. I felt like my overall education was valued. As for extracurricular activities, Aurora has plenty to choose from. From various sports, to theatre, to band, one is sure to find his or her niche. The importance of the student’s wellbeing carries from the classroom to these activities. The advisors/coaches truly want everyone to enjoy themselves. I am grateful to be graduating from Aurora. It has lots to offer that will help the students succeed in their future.

Parent: The staff and teachers care about the boys and it is clear that they want to help their students be successful. The campus is pretty, the dorm rooms are basic – it isn’t the fanciest boarding school, but they get the job done. Most of the teachers live on campus, which helps when anyone needs special attention. They have a variety of class options, particularly around their “intensive” sessions that last 2 weeks. There are a lot of activities to keep students occupied. My son has been there for 2.5 years and has grown tremendously. His grades are up and he is in a club and sports. Small class sizes and the availability of the teachers keeps him on track. The teachers encourage him and applaud his successes; they will get on his case if he needs that too. He was failing in the public school and I couldn’t help him anymore. GRA staff and teachers stepped in and started him on a positive path.

Southeast High School
#3 Best High School Sports in Portage County
- Southeast Local School District (Ravenna), OH
Sophomore: Other school's call us the Red-nick school. But for 11 years now going to Southeast Schools I've been having a great experience, meeting new upper class-men. For my first year in high at Southeast it felt like home, like I belonged. Southeast can be that school everyone talks trash about. At least we're family. We take good care of each other. Literally some students and staff at the Southeast are family. I had family at southeast that graduated many years ago and this year. If you ask me how I like going to Southeast I would probably say it's amazing we have each others back. We care for each other. If you ask if I had the chance going to a different or better school would you take that chance. Honestly, I wouldn't Southeast is one of the best schools you can go to. Unless you don't like us Red-nicks, Hillbillies, Farm Kids. Whatever you calls us, we're better than any other. I have to say Southeast is my second home and I'll really miss it when I graduate in June 2020.

James A. Garfield High School
#4 Best High School Sports in Portage County
- James A. Garfield Local School District, OH
Senior: I like attending James A. Garfield High School. The teachers are understanding, helpful, personable, and nice people. They always make sure things are okay and making sure you are always doing your best. Everyone is always so nice. I like the freedom we are given at this school. They give you responsibility once it is earned and tests you to make sure you are worthy of the responsibility that is given. It is easy to succeed when you have everyone rooting and helping you along the way. The only thing I would change about my school is punishment. I think some of the think the punishment given is too light or they are let off with a warning. Sometimes the teachers are too nice and want to see the good in people so bad that they lighten punishments. I agree with them giving people shots, but when they continue to ruin those chances I think they should make harsher punishments for those who need it. To not only punish a kid but make the environment better for everyone else in the school.

Senior: I can’t see myself graduating from anywhere else. Streetsboro High School has an atmosphere that I will never be able to find anywhere else. From the teachers, counselors, and staff, I really don’t know how I would have made it through high school without the support systems in this school.

#6 Best High School Sports in Portage County
- Ravenna City School District, OH
Junior: The teachers are nice, and it’s never boring they’re always having fun assemblies and pep rally’s. They are great at choosing what class to put students in based on the educational level compared to that year they went to school. Bullying is rare and everyone gets along and fits in there’s no one with no friends everyone talks to anyone. They don’t let you give up and will keep pushing and helping you to not give up on your fate or goals. Ravenna High was great choice and a great school surrounded with happiness , I wouldn’t want to have went to high school anywhere else!

Windham High School
- Windham Exempted Village School District, OH
Parent: It's a very small school with a very big heart, the majority of the staff our dedicated to the children. We however have a very low school report card, I do not understand completely how that all works however it is very frustrating to me that such a small school can do so poorly over all. My children have performed very well on their testing and I know a lot of the children do very well, so with over all school scores being so low it's sad to think that some children are not getting the education they need.

Bio-Med Science Academy STEM School
- Public School
- Rootstown, OH
Junior: I like that Bio-Med Science Academy because the school is very well rounded. We have a very nice community, we provide clubs that everyone could be involved in, and we have "accelerated term." Accelerated term is when we take classes that we don't normally take. For example, we have classes that provide opportunities like dissections, intro to nursing, yoga, ACT prep, etc. The school has a comfortable atmosphere because all the people/teachers are very nice and understanding. We also do this cool thing called Family group. Once a month we meet up with our family group and we do activities and other group things. The family groups consist of Freshman, Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors. On thing I would change would be the size of the school. We use the college lunch room, and the floor in general is just small.
