#363 Best Public Elementary Schools in New York
- Public School
- Garrison, NY
Parent: I feel the focus on Literacy has led to strong results for the elementary students. This year, with the support of outside consultants, GUFS implemented the Teachers College of Reading and Writing program. The GUFS teachers have embraced the program, especially in the K-2 grades.

The Studio School
- Private School
- New York, NY
- PK, K-8
Parent: My 10 yo is in her 6th year at Studio School. We could not be happier with the education she is receiving. She is filled with enthusiasm about Reading and Writing. The children are writing their own stories, and learning grammar, punctuation, vocabulary, and spelling in the process. She is excited about all of her work, and comes home from school ready to dive in to her homework. I am very impressed with the skills she is mastering at Studio. Studio's homework philosophy is also invaluable. Homework is between the teacher and the student and you should not be involved in ensuring that your child does his/her homework or checking it. I was skeptical at first, but it works! My daughter tells me that she has to get home early enough to have time for homework, or asks me to wake her early so she can finish an assignment. She is learning academically, becoming responsible for herself and her work, and she loves going to school. We can't recommend Studio School highly enough.
