MITCH Charter School
80 Best Public Elementary Schools in Oregon
- Tigard-Tualatin School District, OR
Parent: Our family has been at MITCH for six years. We now have three children in the school. We moved our oldest daughter here mid-kindergarten when she was doing work well below her level at our local school. MITCH offers a liberal arts education beginning in kindergarten on, with a rich offering of history, arts, literature, science, agriculture, physical activity, music and math. The staff cares for my children and has worked closely with us to make sure they are academically challenged, tailoring especially math and reading for their levels. The school offers "walk to math," where students move between classrooms to be with the math level they are, not just the age they are. There is a heavy homework load, especially in math, which is one reason we chose this school. Here our children are learning to work hard, be critical thinkers, make good friends and be responsible and respectful citizens of the world.

French American International School

- PK, K-8
Parent: French American Int'l School has been wonderful for my two daughters. Not only do they teach high-quality language immersion but the arts, technology, music and PE are all infused in their core learning. The middle school (Gilkey) gives fantastic structure for those awkward tween years. Small class sizes and a dedicated group of teachers who have been there forever make a vibrant learning environment. The IB program is an added bonus that enhances their studies considerably. The IB load starts early and continues all the way through middle school, setting them up for a rigorous high school curriculum. Not all immersion schools provide this level of high-quality studies. French American walks their talk. Plus, they are building a new facility for their middle school! It is definitely worth checking out. The one drawback is the pick up/drop off process. It gets bogged down pretty fast.
