Parent: As a parent of a sophomore who entered Poly for high school, I've been thoroughly impressed with the upper school and the experience my child has has so far both academically and socially. From the moment we stepped onto the campus, it was clear that this institution is truly special, and worth its reputation. The rigorous academics along with a dizzying array of extracurriculars means so many opportunities for true personal and intellectual growth for the kids. The teachers are not only experts in their fields but are genuinely invested in each student's success, offering personalized attention that has helped my sophomore thrive. The school community is welcoming and students seem to be open-minded and respectful. On top of all this, the campus is gorgeous and facilities are state of the art. Parent: Oakwood clicked for our family from first blush, and our daughter is thriving there. Oakwood's warmth and close-knit community makes it feel like a neighborhood school, but it offers the top-notch academics that only come from the best independent schools. It's a tricky needle to thread, but they pull it off beautifully. On our first day of kinder, I was struck by just how friendly the place is - a rarity in LA! And in the time since, that sense of belonging has only deepened for both my daughter and our family. Our daughter is blossoming at Oakwood, which is a testament to both the curriculum and the approach to challenging students, but also the level of social-emotional support that is offered. She especially loves art studio, science lab, and music class. Oakwood also has truly one of the best libraries and librarians I've ever encountered, and it's such a joy and resource for our whole family! Senior: I love Campbell Hall! All of the teachers genuinely care about you and want you to succeed in life. I love the CHAI approach to classes rather than AP's. CHAI prepares you for college more in my opinion, because the teachers really want you to understand the material rather than memorize it. My favorite class so far has been CHAI RACE and the Human Experience, the teacher was amazing and I truly had never taken a class like that before. Senior: NCA is a strong academic school that prepares students for college. The workload may be challenging at times, but I saw that it was worth it as I saw major improvements from my work. The teachers are also very understanding and have a good balance of connecting with students while teaching them. Although classes are small, the students are able to truly bond as a class due to the size. The adminstration is very involved in student life and students are easily able to approach them. As the school is small, every student is focused on and they are well-cared for by teaches and administration. Parent: We have two children at Sequoyah’s high school, and they were also at the K-8. The classes they take at the high school often seem like college-level seminars. They are being taught to think and write about complicated issues with nuance and sophistication, and they are able to choose areas of interest for in-depth projects and presentations, which allows them to explore topics that are meaningful to them. Another reason we love the school is its focus on creating a community with multiple types of diversity—socioeconomic, racial, ethnic, etc. This was one of the reasons we chose Sequoyah, and we remain grateful for the school’s commitment to these values. Senior: Overall, Pilgrim School is a great school that promotes learning to its K-12 students. In my time there, I have gotten a good sense of community and we are all a tight-knit group. As a STEM student, I can say that their STEM facilities and classes are excellent and have great resources and teachers to accompany them. The sports at Pilgrim are okay but not great, some years we do well, others we don't. Something I do wish for the future of the school is that they include more clubs and activities for students to participate in. Alum: I attended Highland Hall from 8th-12th grade. I transferred to HH after attending AE Wright Middle School in LVUSD, and suffering socially, emotionally and academically. Once welcomed to my new class in 8th grade, I was able to make friends with nearly every student in my grade/class and then across all grades in High School. I learn by doing and the curriculum and teaching methods aided in my education. I definitely preferred some teachers over others and had subjects I was more interested over others, but as a whole, HH ignited a lifelong love of learning and prepared me for college and my career path. I am still in touch with my classmates and teachers, and they have been a support system for many years post grad. Parent: Academic Excellence, Authentic Culture, Astounding Staff, Amazing Regiment to say the least! This school exceeds scholastic standards. My daughter has been attending this school since she was 3 years old and she is now 9! I moved for a short period of time and had to change schools due to geographical issues. I chose a well known independent school which I thought would match Scholars Preparatory academic structure. I literally moved back to Glendale and re-enrolled into Scholars ASAP.
