Rocklin Academy Turnstone
208 Best Public Elementary Schools in California
- Rocklin Academy Family of Schools, CA
Parent: Turnstone is a very unique school. It’s a Core Knowledge school, so my children are also receiving a solid education in social studies and science, music and art. World history and geography are taught at each grade level, in addition to American history. The curriculum spirals and my first grader was learning all about electricity at the same time as my fourth grader! The teachers work together with each other when similar units coincide. I appreciate how each unit is brought to life— hands on learning, art, and tech projects are always going on. For example, 1st grade has Egyptian Day, and 2nd had an Ellis Island day, 3rd has a Colonial Faire, and 4th does a Medieval Feast, etc! The teachers really support each child, and I always feel in the loop! Math, Lang. Arts, & writing are rigorous and there are high expectations, but also a lot of support. The principal knows each kid and family. The office is super helpful. We have had a wonderful experience at this school!

Sacramento New Technology High School
- Sacramento City Unified School District, CA
Freshman: The teachers at Sac New Technology High School are very helpful and have classes typically under thirty students. The teachers strive to make students successful with a very small learning environment of under or around 200 students. Many of the students are bilingual between Spanish and English and are willing to help each other in either language. Students work together at large group tables rather than desks, and are able to move freely around the classroom. Much of the work is project based, and students have four classes per semester. Students are able to work at their own pace -- more advanced students are able to take classes with other advanced students and upperclassmen, however there are no AP or Honors classes. The school has a few clubs, and students are allowed to create one of their own if supervision of a staff or faculty is present. Dances are held multiple times throughout the year in order to fundraise for the school, along with other fundraisers.
