Vancouver Home Connection

High School Senior: For a student with a lot of self-direction and motivation like myself this school is very easy to get good grades in. The teachers are very supportive and do as much as they can with the funding they are provided, and many buy extra supplies out of their own pockets. The curriculum is average, but gets the job done. If you pay attention, apply yourself, do your homework, and make an effort to understand what is being taught, you'll have no trouble earning good grades. The scheduling process is hectic but manageable, there are a lot of people trying to fill out the same form, but once you get your questions answered it's easy. The workload is not especially large or difficult, as long as you set aside the recommended time you'll be able to get everything done. Special study options are very good, there are online options for students who can't get to school often, and tutoring is available to those who ask. A lot of the students in attendance don't particularly like school, but that has little to do with the school itself. It's unfortunate that so many kids don't like school, but if you have a positive outlook this school is perfectly acceptable.

Senior: Forest Ridge is a great school to attend, the academics are very challenging and the teachers know how to push students to create the best work possible. Since the academics are quite rigorous, there is a slightly stressed and competitive environment at the school. However, this does not mean that the student community is not strong. From my personal experience, everyone is so friendly and welcoming, especially new student entering the high school. I would recommend this school to prepare for college readiness as some of the courses mimic college level work. Athletics is also another fun part of the Forest Ridge experience, there is a no-cut policy that ensure that all students can participate in any sports; this is a great place to meet new people in other grades and where I made some of my best friendships!

Parent: This is my family's first year at OLL, and we have been pleased to be part of such a wonderful community! My son just started his Kindergarten year at OLL, and my daughter switched from our local public school to OLL to start her 2nd grade year. Our son in particular is very bright academically, but very shy and reserved socially. We were looking for a smaller environment that could be more attune to his social needs than a large public school. I have been so happy to see him blossom this school year! He has made lots of new friends, and actually enjoys going to school, which I never thought he would be.
Both of my children are being challenged academically at OLL, and in addition to the academics are being enriched with music, Spanish language, and learning how to be good citizens in their community and beyond. OLL provides a very well-rounded education for both of my children.
I am so happy we made the switch because OLL is a great fit for our family!
