Parent: RAA is an amazing wholesome school. The culture from the teachers and support staff to the families and students is a rare find! They promote the development of the whole person. The academics are challenging, have beautiful gym with brand new sports facilities, the property is huge and they are taught hands on actual farming practices and to care for their water shed open space. Parent: I am a parent at Alexander Valley School and my child has been going there since Kindergarten. She loves it! Her classes are small, but she has plenty of friends. She has been happy with all of her teachers so far and loves most of her extracurricular activities, especially art. Parent: McKinley ‘s accelerated program is fantastic. The science, math and writing projects have completely jazzed my daughters. The curriculum is light years ahead. The school teaches a philosophy of teamwork, rigor, kindness, collaboration and community service. The school expects the kids to manage their own time. Parent: We're in our sixth year at Live Oak and adore the school. The tk/kindergarten is pure Waldorf magic (play-based, pre-literacy taught through stories preparedness for writing by developing hand strength with finger-knitting, etc.). The grades have a lovely balance of Waldorf and mainstream education but are unwavering in teaching to the whole child. The curriculum is true to Waldorf in keeping pace with the child's development and is designed to match the children in where they are in their experience of themselves and the wider world. Our middle school is also a gem! Handwork, movement, and music is integrated into all the grades K-8 The parent community is very involved, invested, and warm. The teachers and staff are loving and committed. As a community we celebrate and receive grounding in our seasonal festivals and traditions. Parent: This is a small 1 class per grade country school. They teach growth mindset, toolbox, kindness, and empathy. My children have loved this school and the family that they have created. The active pto helps pay for the garden, drama, and music enrichment programs. The teachers and staff are able to really meet each child that their level so that no one gets left behind and get the children excited about learning. Middle School Student: Salmon creek is in the quiet town of occidental surrounded by redwood trees. One thing I loved about this school is how they intertwined nature with our education. We had a gardening class where we cooked our own food, a creek hike where we studied science and wrote poetry, and we raised and released steelhead for a science project. It was truly an amazing experience. Another thing I loved about the school was the faculty. All the students had a genuine connection with the teachers. The faculty not only cares about your education but also your well being as human beings. We took many field trips including westminister and alliance redwoods where we ziplined across the redwood trees and participated in team building activities to becomes closer to our classmates. While I was a student there I not only progressed my education preparing me for highschool but I learned how to be a good person and care for others along the way. Parent: My children have had a fantastic experience at Cherry Valley. Their teachers are deeply caring, and the school community is warm and welcoming. Every grade has been awesome, but I want to address the middle school in particular. My older child just finished 8th grade (and was at MCCV since kindergarten), and she is one of the most confident, self-possessed, and happy middle school students I have ever known. She was engaged in her studies and received fantastic support for her learning disability...and her peers who have been identified as gifted also were challenged and stimulated in their academic work. I appreciate the efforts that are being made to make the school population more diverse, and I absolutely believe that equity and social justice are deeply important to the vast majority of students, families, and teachers here. Alum: As a student who studied at Whited Elementry Charter School, I loved the time I spent there, and I couldn't possibly believe how I never wanted to go back home. The school is excellent, both educationally and socially. The teachers there are very kind and loving in nature, and they make sure you go home smiling. As a school I think that Whited fulfilled it's duty to educate me and make me a better human being and it has had a huge impact on my life right now. I really don't think there's much to change, but now that I am 17 and am willing to pursue further in Architecture, I would love to give ideas. Niche User: Madrone Elementary school has an amazing community of parents, techers, administration, staff and students. It is very apparent that the teachers and staff love their jobs and school.
