Freshman: Having relocated last year to San Diego from out of state, we were delighted to find a school that was aligned with our desires for our daughter's education as well as our family's values - The Bishop's School fit the bill! Our then 8th grade daughter was welcomed into the community and really enjoyed her new school. Now in her 2nd year, she was very excited for school to start. The community is racially diverse, quite socio-economically diverse and although parochial, students and faculty of all faiths/no faith are represented and respected. Academically, our daughter found the curriculum to be at pace with her previous school but did have some difficulty adapting to her enriched mathematics class due to the "Harkness-Exeter" teaching method. In hindsight, we wish we would have researched this method better so our daughter would have been better prepared but ultimately, she transferred to a math class that employs a more traditional approach to teaching and is now succeeding.... Alum: As a student who has experienced Cambridge from the beginning of Kindergarten Prep to throwing up my cap at graduation, I can firmly say that Cambridge as a community of faith, living, and learning has been an experience that has helped me develop not just academically, but also socially and spiritually. Each and every faculty member truly believes in Cambridge's mission and vision, and is more than willing to go above and beyond the textbooks and PowerPoints to help each student learn not just what the answers are, but why they are true and how to approach similar questions. Every class becomes integrated with others, whether it be memorizing the history of the world through learning songs during the elementary grades to studying the life of Isaac Newton and his studies while tackling calculus in highschool. Parent: We have been a part of the CHS Community for 14 years. Christian High is an excellent school, with excellent staff and excellent administration. Any family would be blessed to attend this amazing place. No school is perfect, and this one has its small issues, just like any other, whether it be a few bad eggs, or in our instance a struggle to keep a rooted Christian culture in a flailing world. Senior: Had a wonderful time here. Teachers were excellent, I could only have passed my classes with them, but they were also incredibly friendly and I truly built incredible connections with them. Staff here are all fantastic, absolutely no complaints there. Sometimes kids are rowdy, or mean, or whatever adjective preppy private school kids could have. But I really believe the staff did the best they could in keeping things orderly and controlling those kids while never overstepping or making students feel ruled. Sports are incredible, school spirit is incredible, extracurricular leaders are very dedicated to working around students and encouraging them, you will never have to choose one or the other. Parent: We are floored by our experience at The Rock Academy. We moved from a highly rated public school district in our community and had no idea what we were missing. The staff works as a team and the administration truly pours love and appreciation into its teachers. The hands on learning and appropriate screen use was important to us. There are special classes during school (performing arts, co-lab (STEAM), chapel, physical education) that have designated teachers that are incredible at what they do! The school is Christ centered in everything they do from discipline to subject learning God is a big focus. It’s been a blessing for us to watch our kids grow spiritually and learn how powerful prayer can be in their everyday life. This school practices what they preach. Parent: A friend of ours referred us to this wonderful school as we were struggling with the learn-from-home (aka staring at a screen all day) model given by our public charter school. OVCA has been open since August with no outbreaks (a few cases from parents of students in different grades but no inter-transmission of COVID while in school, as far as I know). My friend had been sending her kids to this school for many years and said it was the best parenting choice she had made, and I can't help but agree with her. My child is happy and thriving in a supportive environment, with appropriate learning goals and surrounded by friends who share the values of kindness, respect, and diligence. It's a sacrifice/priority financially but well worth the value and a bargain compared to the cost of other private schools in the San Diego area. I can't recommend this school highly enough!... Parent: I had children attend TCC from 2009-2023. Pre-school till 12th grade. We have seen a lot over the past 14 years. The best part of TCC is the teachers. The teachers care deeply for their students and wish them nothing but success. TCC handled the pandemic very well. Working hard to make sure the students were back in school on campus as soon as possible. We have had a lot of changes in administration and feel as though they are losing a bit of why we chose TCC many years ago. With the pandemic and public school closures, we had an influx of new students. The growth is great for TCC however, some of the new students and families do not align with a majority of the long-time existing students' beliefs. Bringing new issues to TCC. Alum: I graduated from EAA 9 years ago now and am truly seeing how much it helped shape me into who I am today! It not only prepared me for college and post graduate school, but also the real world. While at the time it bothered me how small the school was, I realize now that I was able to do so many different extra curriculars that I wouldn’t have been able to do at a bigger school. Another thing I really appreciated was how much the teachers cared. I had a few teachers that never missed a sports game or music performance, despite being incredibly busy. Some of these teachers still reach out to me regularly even though I’ve been gone for almost a decade. You will see teachers from K-12 staying late each day, which I have learned is very rare. Senior: Calvin Christian School is a Christian school with a quiet and pleasant environment, and teachers and students have a very high standard because it is a place where you can attend only after going through a strict screening process and receiving admission permission. Diversity is lacking as most of the students are Dutch. However, the school building and facilities are neat and the school's financial management is strict. Freshman: Foothills is an absolutely beautiful school that I recommend to everyone! They have special classes such as Aviation (which if you take for four years, you'll graduate with a pilot license), Photography, Servant Leadership, Ceramics, and more. Everybody is so kind. The fact that you only go to school three days a week is incredible! Gives students more time to themselves and for various sporting events and practices. Parent: Horizon Prep has blessed us abundantly in every aspect of our kids' lives! Attending the high school now, my only regret is not moving to HP earlier. The rigorous academics are provided by thoughtful, engaging teachers. Every teacher offers office hours. 9-12 grade students invite and enjoy their parents' after school event participation. The no cut athletics are ministered by talented coaches. Players grow with teams in competitive, but supportive groups. Students cannot hide from class discussions. The smaller numbers require students to really be involved in their learning and that ownership has dramatically effected my kids' personal effort, responsibilty, and care in their education. As a new parent, my prayer was to raise well-rounded, servant leaders who have the decision making skills and grit necessary to walk their path as adults. Parent: We started our children here during Covid, originally thinking they would return to our local public school once things were back to normal. Here we are three years later and they’re still at City Tree and we couldn’t be happier. Both of our kids have excelled socially and academically all due to the incredible staff and teachers at the school. They also have a great enrichment program including sports, art, music, singing and other programs that all students are involved with. The staff and student body is very diverse and very warm and welcoming. I couldn’t say enough great things about this school. Alum: I really enjoyed my time at Reformation! In my opinion, it is the best Christian school in San Diego! I began at Reformation at the age of six, but now I am an alumna. One of my favorite parts of Reformation was that the staff always incorporated the word of God in every subject that they taught. Also, I loved Reformation because the kids there were so nice! I made many excellent friends at Reformation. Although I began attending this school at the age of six and many of the other students already knew each other, they were very friendly and kind and quickly integrated me into their activities. I am also very grateful for the teachers at Reformation! No matter the circumstance, the teachers at Reformation always had me and my best interest in mind. I loved that about this school! Parent: We are so sad that the next year will be our family's last at CLS. Our children have been pushed out of their comfort zones by loving, supportive staff who brought out the best of them. They perform to the best of their abilities because it's "cool" to be smart and involved at CLS. Here they learned self-reliance, accountability, good study habits and time management in addition to all the academic things we had expected. Their love of Jesus has blossomed so much that we have no doubt faith will be a permanent part of their lives.
