Parent: I have been so impressed with the administration, faculty and staff of St. Chris over these past two years through the very difficult Covid era. When the school shut down in March of 2020, as the rest of America did, the school pivoted overnight to a distance learning model. Within two days, my son was getting assignments from his second-grade teacher and within the week his class was all gathering on Zoom each morning. Sure, there were bumps along the way. But I appreciated the school's drive to bring as much normalcy to their students as possible. In fall of 2020, while many other schools were still trying to figure out how to START a distance learning program, St. Chris was safely conducting in-person instruction, five days a week. It was more than just having deep pockets to be able to take on the additional cost of making that happen... it was also that the institution took on a proactive, problem-solving role in the midst of an educational crisis.... Parent: Our experience with St. Catherine's has been fantastic since my girls were in the Early Learner program. The teachers have been amazing and have been truly supportive and accommodating to each of my girls individual personalities and needs as they've gone through the program, allowing them to really come out of their shell and find confidence and excitement through learning. I have been thoroughly impressed each year and am grateful that my kids will graduate from this school. The teachers are dedicated and engaging with the girls, challenging them and helping them reach their full potential. The campus is gorgeous with state of the art facilities and with a multitude of amenities. Senior: I attended Grove Christian School for three years and it was amazing. I transferred in my Sophomore year because my previous public school was not preparing me to reach my fullest potential. Looking at public schools nowadays, they do not look to change at all. Through attending Grove I have found to know Jesus and become saved and baptized through learning about Him. If it was not because of Grove Christian School I would have been a high school dropout. This school has changed me for the better and the culture at Grove is a family. Everyone wants to see people succeed and they help you. Most important and why Grove is successful in the eyes of the Lord, is because they give all the glory to God. Two years ago it was a very small school, but the school still focused on God and did not care about numbers. Junior: I have gone here since kindergarten and I truly feel that the teachers here care about you. They invest in you, pray for you, and try to help you whenever possible. The facilities could use a little work, but they are already in the process of that. The administration has been up and down, especially in the area of discipline and rules. The athletics and associations are great, especially if you want a group or team that allows almost everyone to play. Overall, a great private school. There are no uniforms, but a relaxed dress code. Senior: I have been a student at The Carmel School for the last thirteen years and all I can say is I consider Carmel my second home. The Carmel School is a great community to be a part of as there is a great amount of one on one learning with teachers and faculty members. One thing that I have struggled with has been the mathematics department as it has not been the strongest in the time I have been at Carmel so I hope to see that it can grow in the future. Carmel has a very strong English department as well as sciences. There are decent clubs to choose from and they take athletics very seriously. I have had the opportunity to build life long friendships at my time at Carmel as well as excel in my leadership skills. I have participated in various clubs such as drama club, yearbook (editor), ambassadors, etc. Overall, Carmel is like no other and I hope to see Carmel become and even bigger community than what it is now.... Junior: Salem teaches it’s students everything they will need to know leaving grade school. It is a very small school which only mean better relationships with the teachers and better learning. A lot of the classes, while they are not labeled as AP classes, are taught at an AP level. Parent: My son has been at Good Shepherd for three years and we've been very happy. He has had made great friends in the small classes, and gets plenty of attention from the dedicated teaching staff. He also loves the "perks" like the outdoors program, where they walk over to nearby Forest Hill park and down by the James River to learn about nature and Richmond. Alum: Banner is a wonderful school full of fantastic people! The teachers are genuine people who care about you learning, and the students are friendly. Our class had about 20 students, and we all got to know each other like family by the senior trip. Banner offers a variety of sports for such a small school, as well as student-lead clubs and programs that help the students get to know one another. The arts courses were outstanding during my time at Banner, as well as many volunteer opportunities. Some drawbacks are that the courses do have room to improve. Banner has some great literature and math classes (which is good because those are core subjects). However, some teachers might rush through important subjects way too quickly. The teachers are very important and might not be given the respect and bonuses they deserve. Parent: Cloverhill Christian Academy is our home away from home! Our daughters have been at CCA since they were 2 in the Preschool and have now been the Lower School for several years. The curriculum is academically challenging + builds each year. One of my daughters has received additional accommodations to further challenge her even when she exceeds benchmarks. I love that they meet each student where they are to help them grow not only academically, but spiritually as well. Biblical views are woven into each subject and my girls love Chapel and Bible! They come home teaching mom and dad from the Bible, mirroring the image of God in local sports to their peers, and love going to school each day. Teachers have become our family and past teachers continuously check in on them and our family. Resource classes also have been wonderful!
