Junior: The teachers are excellent! One can have all other characteristics be awful, but the teachers are simply the highlight. It reminds me of medieval scholastic scholars and the founding of the first universities, where pupils would eagerly sit at their tutor's feet. With a very small class size, it's much easier to interact intellectually with not only the teachers but also other students. Parent: We moved from another state last year before my daughter started 9th grade. She received an incredibly warm welcome at Caldwell Academy! She made friends immediately and was able to get connected with sports and clubs. They offer an optional weekly Bible study, peer tutoring, local vendors for hot lunches, and excellent weekly communication (so you’re always “in the loop” about what is going on with school activities). Senior: Oak Ridge Military Academy is a private school that puts students into a real-world problem-solving environment. They have you start out being a recruit that has to be taught everything that involves the military, like performing a right or left face and learning how to march. Once you finish recruit training, you are placed into a company (a large group of cadets), where you are a private. Alum: I just graduated. The teachers were awesome, only had one bad one in first grade. Some are tough, but they all care about you a lot. There is not a football team, so our outing was always basketball games or a neighboring school's game. The students there, however, are all brats (rich kids mainly). It is not very diverse, and class sizes are small. I like the classes. My smallest was 6, largest was 22. Works Here: Winston-Salem Christian School is a wonderful community of people who love the Lord and people. It is an excellent school that focuses on academics, diversity, sports, and relationship. It is a family of people who come together to uplift students and further their education through dedication, prayer, and support. On top of it, students are receiving a biblical-based foundation. Alum: Going to Vandalia Christian School was an amazing experience. It was at Vandalia where I won the NCCSA State Cross Country meet. This school gave me incredible opportunities such as the following: playing guitar in chapel crew, preaching at fine arts, running cross country, receiving a solid education, and preparing me to enter into college. Although I only attended for three years, they may have been the best three years of my life (especially junior year where I met my present day girlfriend). I really wish that Vandalia had offered more AP courses because I would have liked to take more than just AP Statistics and I wish that the AP Statistics course that they do offer better prepares students for the AP Statistics Exam. Parent: North Hills is a small private Christian school. It's expensive, but they do offer scholarships for those that qualify. My daughters have attended there for 9 years. They do a great job of intertwining the spiritual and academic needs together for the students. They have a good athletic program for a private school that has definitely improved each year. We have had problems with some teachers not being good teachers, but the school has done a good job of hearing from students and parents and making the necessary changes. We have had some great teachers at NHCS that have taught my daughters not only their academics but great life lessons. I do think there is room for improvement as far as academic advising and preparing students for college. I would like to see more college test prep and more standardized testing options at our school for our high school students getting ready for college. Senior: Attending Rockwell Christian School has been a great experience! I have gone to RCS since kindergarten and have made long-lasting relationships not only with my fellow students, but with the faculty and staff as well.
