Junior: The diversity at the Potter's House is greatly recognized and celebrated. There are students from many countries around the world and as a student, you get to hear about the different experiences your peers have had. Most of the teachers are great and care about you. However, some of the policies of the school are a bit excessive compared to neighboring schools, and the administration claims it is so Potter's House is "unique" and "does things differently." The Christian aspect of the school is great, but it is difficult to share you opinions safely if they are different from the majority, because the school is able to find anything possibly offensive. A majority of students receive tuition support from donors, which is great, but it means the students body is expected to "show off" in a way with performances throughout the year, and making sure there is a diverse group of students in photos and advertisement. Senior: I really like WMC. I went to a public school through middle school, so switching to a religious private school was a great change of pace. I find that people that involve themselves in the school and go to all outside events like the school a lot more than those who only go to classes. Works Here: I love seeing how this school is rapidly developing for current times for our current students and families. Many various updates have been made since 2015 such as: More variety of AP courses, option of online courses with Andrews University, expanding the music program, new security precautions for main entrance, new faculty and staff, and various academic trips for Elementary and High School. GRAA is very open to all students, Christians and non-Christians alike. And I was very happy to hear recently that our school has one of the lowest tuition rates compared to the other Christian private schools nearby. But my by-far favorite thing about being at this school is that the community and social circle that the students themselves create. They really are so kind and the bond that they make throughout each year, especially through mission trips, is so special. Really is a peaceful and fun-loving school. Senior: South Christian is a great place to go to high school! The education I have received there is fantastic, thanks to the knowledgeable teachers who care deeply about their students. There are lots of extracurricular opportunities, so it’s easy to get involved. The administration has also been taking initiative the last few year to improve student mental health, which I love! The only downside I’ve experienced at South has been that it can be a little difficult to find your place or feel like you fit in. However, the counseling department is working to see that change. Senior: My experience at Tri-unity Christian High School has been very positive overall. I became a member of the school in 2016, which was my freshman year. Immediately upon entering, I made several quality friendships that have lasted throughout my tenure as a high school student. Junior: It overall has a challenging curriculum that is very rigorous. If you take certain classes there will be no break. I would like to see more parent involvement but also a more diverse culture. Senior: CCHS is such a great place to learn! The teachers care about the students and take the time to get to know who they are and guide them in the process of growing as people. In addition, Calvin has great extracurriculars, from athletics and arts to robotics and Model UN. Their athletics teams frequently go far in regional competitions against larger schools and receive all-academic awards; their Robotics program made it to the State Finals in its first year of existence; the Band and Orchestra programs received straight A's in Festival; the Chorale received a nearly-perfect score and a perfect score (119/120 and 90/90); and several students have received first- or second-honors awards for excellence in representing their countries in Model UN. Senior: Covenant Christian is a great school to go to. The community is one where everyone is friendly and kind to one another, and won't leave anyone out if they are sitting by themselves. The teachers are looking out for the students best interests and what will help them the most. They are willing to put in extra work so that we are more likely to succeed. One only downside is that we are a smaller school so we don't have enough people to play football, but otherwise Covenant is a great school to go to, including for sports! There are no things about Covenant that I would like to change. We are know for our sportsmanship in sports and being kind to all of those around us. My experience at Covenant has been amazing.... Parent: Time flies! This year, my daughter Mercy has graduated from Living Stones Academy (LSA)! I still vividly remember the day we moved from China to Grand Rapids four years ago. Back then, Mercy, who was in the third grade, had never met anyone from a foreign country. However, the Christ-centered life, the diverse atmosphere, and the dedicated teachers at LSA welcomed her from day one. With this, Mercy seamlessly integrated into the LSA community, living each day with confidence and fulfillment. Here at LSA, she met teachers who embodied the teachings of Christ, classmates who were genuinely kind, and committed volunteer mentors who faithfully served. The blessings and growth Mercy experienced at LSA assured us of the true guidance and grace of God within this school. Senior: I sigh with sentimentality as I reflect on Potter's House and the ways in which my ten years here have shaped me. The name of my school comes from the verse Isaiah 64:8 which says "we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand." And I can't help but smile as I realize that God really has shaped me; I have developed a resilient confidence, better social skills, and appreciation for the wonder of this world. As a very diverse Christian school, The Potter's House has a very particular environment. My school centers on community which I love, but personally I've experienced an excessive amount of social problems among peers and I would have loved to see more academic organization, administrative responsibility, and encouragement to accept one another, especially at a place where diversity, and ethnic inclusion are highly boasted. Every year, these are the students that come and push boundaries in learning even as freshman--if anything, I've heard that West Side's grading and academics are so rigorous, that high school feels easier! What they learn in elementary school through middle school prepares them to be the high school students I know and love to watch learn and compete, gets them ready for whatever they decide to pursue afterwards as their career, and best of all gets their hearts ready to continue to meet their Savior in the ordinary and extraordinary parts of their lives....
