Senior: The Westminster Schools is a great institution for a high schooler's education. The teachers are great, the school spirit and athletic department is exceptional, and each student graduates fully prepared for college and a future career. It is not completely perfect, however. Diversity is not the best at Westminster from a percentage standpoint, and it does not seem that much is done about it. The school also puts each student under intense pressure to succeed, which has caused many burnouts by junior year. Although they have the Wellness Center for emotional support, nothing of substance is done to prevent the overwhelmingly large amount of students that cannot sustain the unnecessary intensity of this school. Finally, the performing arts program is greatly under-resourced and is in need of better facilities (classrooms, music stands, instruments, etc.) Westminster is a great school overall, providing students with a brilliant education, with some flaws.... Senior: I have been at Wesleyan School for 4 years and have felt improvement at every step. Upon entering I was evaluated and spoken to on how to best help me academically advance and they have held to the standard that I helped them set of challenging me. I have felt challenged at every step, but never underprepared. They truly try their best to cater to each individual's learning. The teachers are phenomenal and are open to assist in outside learning at many hours that are clearly communicated to the students, allowing kids to get the outside help they need. They additionally help to upkeep the honor and discipline of students and are very loving to each one. There are also a wide array of activities to partake in from sports to shows in the fine arts, and each one is made a very engaging experience for students. Parent: Academically, we love the approach to learning and assessment. Teachers give detailed feedback and assess with a rubric. Students know what’s expected in advance. Our oldest (who can be an overachiever) keeps working to achieve the "advanced" description. Our youngest (who can be comfortable doing the minimum) can see how to keep working and stretch. From a community standpoint, we love that MV values diversity of thought, backgrounds, and experiences. Our children are learning to find connections and celebrate differences. Lastly, we love the school norms: start with questions, assume the best, share the well, fail up, and have FUN! In February we were away for a long weekend with another family who attends a school out of town. Their children’s holiday was one day longer than ours and we had to leave early. Parent: Our children started GAC in 6th and 9th. After a year and a half I’m very impressed with the leadership, teachers, academics, and co-curriculars. Our children are very different; one is academic & artsy and one loves sports more than school. We chose GAC because it would be a great fit for both. As we go into the second semester of year 2, both kids are thriving! They have found great community and tried new things. My athletic child has discovered a passion in film editing and my theatre kid played 2 sports! We are thrilled to see them grow academically, spiritually, and socially. Our 6th grader was behind in math when she arrived due to covid /public school and because of great teachers, encouraging administrators she is now in honors math with an A. Parent: Amazing faculty who genuinely love teaching to the whole child. Landmark offers unique opportunities in new technologies - coding, 3-D printing, and advanced engineering. The Aviation academy is a distinctive with several graduates this year going on to college to pursue flying. The new Fashion Academy is also incredible addition. The Music Academy has students producing their own content and downloading to Spotify. Alum: I graduated from NCCS & believe it was the best investment/sacrifice my parents made for me. The life-long friendships I have from NCCS are ones I will forever be grateful for. While most of our learning incorporated some sort of Christian focus, this never took away from the rigorous & challenging courses here (a common christian school assumption!). I can't emphasize enough how well we were prepared for college- both academically and spiritually. As I got to college, it didn't take me long to notice the difference in education experience between my friends & I (how to study & how to defend my faith were the most obvious things). S/O to my teacher who gave me her marketing book my senior year because she saw something in me that I couldn't. She guided me down my career path before I even knew what it was. Senior: This school is small, but it is the most welcoming learning environment I’ve been in.
