Alum: At Groton, I feel that I have been able to become a more independent and conscientious person during my time at this school. The best thing about this school is the resources that it provides the students. Here, I feel that I can be whoever I like because the teachers, dorm parents, coaches, and community is supportive of everyone's quirks, interests, and dreams. The teachers are approachable and dedicated, and work hard to provide students with a positive experience and I have made some of the truest and most diverse background friends. However, while at my time here, I have noticed that there is a toxically competitive culture here. Moreover, sometimes it is hard to get leadership positions in clubs because one has to be "connected" or popular, and the unsafe hook-up culture NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED! Senior: Lots of opportunities to do things and the worst part was when there was the opportunity, but I could figure out how to get to it. Generally good with Financial Aid with some exceptions like having to be in a music program in order to get music lessons, but largley only being able to be in a program if you already played something. The athletic options were good, both on teams and otherwise. The art department was fantastic and many students were close with the teachers. Though other kids' experiences varied, I liked all my teachers. We learned a lot and had easy accessibility to things outside of the classroom, including trips, (moderately) job opportunities, hearing from speakers and alumni, community service, general get-to-gethers/events, and more.... Parent: I have friends who are attending various private and public schools in the Dallas-Fort Worth area from grades 5 on through 12. In sitting down with the other dads it is undoubtedly true that no school has done more to prepare post the outbreak of the pandemic then St Mark’s. Not only their children but their administration and teachers are out of this world! Not only did the school literally review replace hundreds of things across the campus, they’ve also implemented a fantastic screening program, testing program, and communications program for SARS-COVID19. I know that when selecting schools grades, scores and college admissions are the number one priority. I never thought I would pick a school based upon their ability to handle a medical global outbreak. The school has literally blown us away! Parent: If you want a well-rounded high school experience, St. Paul's is the place to go. It is clear that the school genuinely cares about its students, faculty, and staff. They've done a lot of research on diversity programs and, consequently, have done a great job of building a friendly and inclusive environment. Parent: My son will be graduating in a few weeks from The Bishop’s School. It’s definitely an academically challenging school, but that’s what my son loved about it the most. He came from public school that didn’t challenge him enough and had teachers that barely knew the students. At Bishop’s, he received quality education, a lot of one-on-one interaction with teachers that cared, and he took advantage of everything the school offered. We are not rich and it was a financial sacrifice for us to send him there, but it was worth every penny. He always tells us it is the best decision he ever made. He also had a chance to play sports and had coaches that truly cared about him as a whole, on and off the court. The only thing I wish I knew before matriculating at Bishop’s is that your chances of getting into top UC schools dramatically decreases because most of the kids at Bishop’s are highly intelligent and top UCs can only accept a small %. This is our 6th year at Westminster and we have been very pleased with our decision! The school thoroughly plans the curriculum for each grade level and continues to provide a challenging yet very supportive and caring environment for students. My child has really thrived at Westminster under its rigorous program, their teaching philosophy, unlimited resources, wide choices of extra-curricular activities and their athletic program! Senior: Overall, I've had a lot of fun here at GFS. I really felt the school's Quaker values shine through throughout my experience here, whether it was through calling teachers by their first names, or beginning certain classes with moments of silence, or attending weekly Meeting for Worship. Junior: St. Albans has taught me time management skills because we are required to play a sport every season and practices end around 6. It truly is a strenuous environment academically but the friends you make in your years here make it all worthwhile. Knowing you aren’t the only person struggling or going through rigorous tests and papers makes it all more bearable. Other traditions like the BEEF Club, family style lunches, and chapels in the little sanctuary bring everyone closer together and really make you feel at home. Parent: We have a rising Kindergartener, who finished his first year at Friends in Pre-K. As a parent, and an educational professional, I personally could not have designed a better experience for my son, especially during the COVID-related shut down. We initially chose Friends for our son because we wanted more for him; we wanted him to learn through experience, to develop thoughts of his own and more importantly to be part of a community that subscribed to similar values as ours. Our son’s first year was FANTASTIC! Notably, while everyone was scrambling to figure things out when the State shut down, our son was being educated and supported in a way that was developmentally appropriate, fun and responsive. The transition to virtual school was so seamless, that it seemed like it was planned for (it might have been). Parent: Kent is an exceptional all-around school. Definitely ascending in reputation - has the right kind of mix between challenging academics, sports and extra curriculars. Kent has an impressive advisor program that helps guide students through their boarding school journey. Arguably, it has the prettiest setting among all the East Coast schools with a river that runs along the campus and a wonderful town that is literally a 5-min walk for students. Parent: I have three very different children that Berkeley has shepherded through their academic and social emotional journey. My two oldest have graduated and felt so prepared for their college experience. The diversity of curriculum and the opportunities for leadership, community involvement and person growth is untouched by any other school I have seen. Berkeley never sits back and rests on it's laurels because every year there seems to be another opportunity to engage students in their passions. The athletics, arts, theater and music programs are college level, with the facilities to match. Parent: I have two Children who attend Brooks. Both are 4 year boarders. The opportunity each of them has been given in attending Brooks as been incredible. They have been challenged in and out of the classroom. The academics are challenging, but are done in an environment that is always supportive, with a lot of encouragement to strive to be and do your best. My children have forged wonderful relationships with many of their teachers, advisors and coaches; ones that will last a lifetime. The school is very warm and welcoming, and has the feel of being "home". Athletics at Brooks are a great compliment to the academics. Brooks is always competitive in so many of their athletic teams. Brooks transitioned so quickly and so well to online learning during this past Spring when schools were forced to close. Parent: Our son is a senior who has attended The Pennington School since his freshman year and his experience has been tremendous! He has friends from all over the world, his classes have had about 8 to 13 students in each which has translated to personalized and high-level instruction with active student engagement/participation every day, he's participated in sports and multiple activities, clubs and fundraisers all 4 years including tutoring students in Malawi, being part of the Global Studies program, and serving on the "Green Team" where he has been able to make an environmental impact. We hosted 2 international students his soph year who have become family. And he is already set up with where he will attend college next year. This school offers so much that it has been a gift that he has been able to attend for his high school years. Senior: I love Palmer Trinity School because of the opportunities it has and will provide for me. Coming from a middle-class family, I never thought attending a school like Palmer Trinity would ever be possible. But the school gave me a scholarship and gave me an opportunity to attend this wonderful school. I truly value the academically challenging environment I am placed in and the peers surrounding me. Senior: Amazing teachers that are always there for you. They are definitely the highlight of my experience there. As someone who has spent their entire time at FCS, they really do provide multiple resources for students to be their best selves for the future. If you want a good education, FCS definitely is the right place. However, there were a few times I felt let down by the athletics there. Due to how little athletics requirements needed to graduate, many students do not try or participate in athletics. This led to many of the teams I was on to be small in numbers resulting in difficulties to perform well at major events. Maybe having a small team is good for some, just not for me. I do appreciate how I never felt like I was never good enough to join a team. There was always a place for me and I got along great with everyone for the most part. Junior: I just wanted to give a shoutout to my high school, Trinity Prep. It's seriously the best school ever! The teachers are amazing and give excellent instruction to help us succeed. They're always there to help and provide guidance when we need it. One thing I really love about Trinity Prep is the positive vibe on campus. Everyone is so welcoming and friendly, which makes it a great place to learn and grow. The teachers also create personalized learning plans for each student, so we can focus on our strengths and work on areas where we need improvement.
