Senior: Teachers have always been readily available and happy to help no matter the time of day. The dining service is absolutely outstanding with many options for people on various diets. The campus and building are always excellently maintained by the facilities staff. There’s a lot of promotion to join clubs, sports, special programs and other activities and I’m pretty sure none of them have cuts. From a culture stand point, it is incredible welcoming and there are numerous yearly events that are unique to the school. Some of the less greats thing would be the sports equipment and facilities (especially baseball and swimming) could use a little work. Also, as much of the school promotes open conversations in the end the school is very much liberal so more moderate or conservative viewpoints may not be as inclined to speak up. Junior: Minnehaha Academy is a fabulous Christian institution that helps to prepare students not only for college but for life. In my experience, it doesn't matter whether you're Christian or not, the majority of students really appreciate the values our schooling instigates in us. Values of compassion, humility, learning, and patience are especially ingrained in us through our school's CFE, or Core Formation Experience, program. We have to participate each year in order to receive our diplomas. A student can choose to travel nationally, internationally, or stay local. Local programs can either be where students will travel somewhere to volunteer every day and get to work hands-on with people from different backgrounds or a very educational experience, diving into a specific issue, right at the school. Freshman: I love going to Shattuck, the teachers care about the students and the athletics are amazing! Shattuck is getting me ready for College by working on my timemamgement skills, study habits, and teaching us how to take responsibility of ourselves and our actions. My coaches work very hard to make us better and think about what we want to do and where we want to go after high school. We pend time in the weight room and have practice 4-5 days a week so we are getting so much out of being here learning from these professionals. My soccer schedule is worked into my academic schedule and the teachers, coaches, advisors all work with me to help me create good habits in and out of the classroom. I feel like I have lots of support from teachers and the classroom size is small enough I can get help when I need it. Senior: Overall this school is very good. On the academic side, it is very good with teachers who actually care about what they teach and the students they are teaching. The Biblical teaching here is also very good. It is definitely not in your face like many Christian schools are stereotyped, but taught in a way that is meaning full and helpful to guide students toward a lifelong relationship with God. Although the environment is good, it is a much smaller school than your average school, but that is not a bad thing. The activities here are limited, but overall enjoyable experience. Sports are average at this school, but they have definitely shown upside these past few years, and with a new expansion on the way, they will make leaps towards more championships. Alum: St. Croix prepared me academically, physically, and spiritually for college and my future. The teachers are passionate about their students' success and were always willing to set time aside to help. There are amazing opportunities to grow in sports and the arts, especially with the newly renovated facilities. One unique thing about St. Croix that stuck out to me was the global perspective that this school had, and its exposure to different cultures through the international students that attended. I was able to make friends with students from all over the world, and am still in contact with them to this day. Junior: Concordia Academy has been an amazing school for me! The teachers genuinely care about you, and many of them take time to get to know you. I have grown in my faith so much at this school. Parent: We spent K-2nd in Wayzata schools and pulled our children this year to Fourth Baptist. These are the three biggest differences I’ve noticed: 1. Fourth Baptist focuses on learning phonics, sounds, blending. Wayzata was all about sight words and my son quickly fell behind in reading. 2. Academic rigor. Between weekly spelling words, vocabulary, cursive starting in 1st grade, memorization and reciting in front of peers (to build public speaking skills), book reports, and homework, the academic rigor is more challenging than our Wayzata experience. 3. Transparency. I get a folder home weekly of my kids work. Anywhere between 15-20 pages of Math, history, science, spelling tests, reading comprehension tests, etc. Everything is percentage graded, so I know exactly how my children are doing academically. 4. Junior: I have been going to RiverTree since Kindergarten and don't want to leave this beautiful place. The environment is truly created so that children can grow into who God has created them to be without a fear of teachers or grades. Grades have never been the priority. Teaching children to care about learning is the priority. Therefore, the grade takes care of itself. Everyone at RiverTree strives to learn and truly cares because we have been trained to be good stewards of what we have been given. Not a resource is wasted. No one is overlooked. The attention given by each teacher is unparalleled. Each teacher notices and cares for the student as an individual child of God, not just another body passing through the building. Parent: We love MLC! My kids started going to the public school. One of them would come home and cry, scream and/or hide for about an hour. He was so tired! After switching them to the Christian school, he changed for the better. He started coming home happy and ready to play. The combination of teachers praying for the students every day and the smaller classes gave my son room to be himself. He has more freedom to move and to express his ideas. The teachers are very intentional. In the big school, the challenges of one of my sons would go unnoticed and the exceptional abilities of my other son would get ignored. At MLC, now four of my kids are getting the support and encouragement they need to succeed in life. The staff members are very positive. It's impossible to just go in and out because they are always happy to start a conversation. The work with joy an excellence. Junior: At Park Christian School you are not a number. You are known and cared for as an individual. Because of the smaller class sizes teachers are able to easily help us individually with any questions we have. Also what I love about Park is knowing everyone! My class has 33 students and I know everyone really well! Walking through the hallways, I know everyone by name. I love being in one building with kindergarten through seniors. I had the opportunity this past year to be an ET (education teaching). I was able to assist elementary teachers every day. I got to make connections with younger students which was amazing. PCS also focuses on teaching us with a biblical world view so we can be prepared to go out into the world solid on our faith. We have 8 class periods & one class is always a Bible class. Junior year the Bible class is Understanding the Times. We learned about all religions and worldviews and discussed different issues in our world today. Our class dove deep into discussions.... Parent: My three children graduated from West Lutheran High School in 2017, 2019 and 2021. They excelled academically and benefited from individual attention when needed due to the low teacher to student ratio. I can confidently confirm that they were more than ready for the rigors of college. While at West Lutheran they also had the opportunity to explore and experience the many and varied extra curricular activities. Being involved in multiple sports, national honor society, drama, choir and band enabled them to grow in confidence, leadership and team building skills. I am sure they would have loved to be involved in the newly launched STEM program, state champion bass fishing club, and successful robotics team! Junior: The school itself is wonderful and provides a great, Christian-centered education. The academics are amazing, and I have made a few really close friends there. However, like any high school, there’s bound to be bad seeds. Some people in my class have been bullied. It’s never physical, but it’s enough that it makes me want to avoid the people in my class. They don’t always get in trouble, either, because they do it in ways that may seem harmless if you aren’t fully listening to their conversation or watching them. Besides this, I honestly think this school is wonderful. The connections you make through sports, drama club, or any other activity you may decide to join will last a lifetime. The teachers are amazing and love the students so much. When you have people like these, it’s easier to get through the hard times that often come with high school!
