Parent: Walking into AHCS, you can immediately feel a difference from other private schools. We transferred from a local Christian private school seeking a TRUE Christian environment with high academic standards, educators who instructed to rigorous and relevant curriculum, and a setting that required our students to meet the high expectations, as well as an environment that fosters and meets the needs of each student. We have found everything we desired in a school for our children. The staff is caring, helpful, knowledgeable, and kind. Conflicts or issues, especially between students, are resolved immediately, the curriculum is rigorous and relevant, and the educators are caring and knowledgeable. The head of school takes time to know each family personally and is always around to speak about an issue or concern and address any needs. Junior: The faculty is amazing. Each teacher takes time to make sure their students are cared for and understood. The kids are kind and accepting of everyone. The school is very culturally diverse, and there are friend groups of all kinds. There are many clubs and sports teams available for all different interests. For those whose expenses are tight, there is a program through the Berrien partnership to help pay for any activity or lesson your child participates in. Andrews Academy also has many different activities that go on each weekend for students and the community to participate in. Each grade-level class has a special teacher sponsor who organizes activities and vespers for that class. This school is very community-oriented and puts effort into reaching out to others. Twice a year they do community service for local businesses, and they often run donation drives to help people in need. Parent: Spring Vale is a rare gem! They use a classical education model utilizing the trivium of Grammar (memorizing facts, dates, people), Logic (analyzing facts, reasoning, argumentation, critical analysis), and Rhetoric (integrated knowledge, articulation, growing in wisdom). It's truly a great way to master what you're learning. We like the class sizes, life skills classes, the HOUSE system, and dress code. The campus is much bigger than it seems. They have goats, chickens, bees (they actually do beekeeping as a life skills class), and as pond stocked with fish as they teach fishing also. Just really awesome. Check it out for your kids. Junior: My experience here at Grace is AMAZING! I came from a public school and joined Grace in 8th grade. The school welcomes people with open arms. All the students are lovely and have beautiful hearts. I love how the school makes you feel so included. The teachers really want to help you understand things. And the financial part of the school can be troublesome for low-income families but Grace offers financial aid, and or you can find someone to sponsor you. I would recommend this school and give it a 5 out of 5! The only thing I think Grace could improve on is more elective choices. Ones that give you a spark for what you want to do when you're older. Parent: We have heard so many good things about this school, I was praying we would get in since so many people love it! I was able to get my daughter in the Prek 3 class and she has blossomed. It truly is the best preschool/education around. Now she is in K4 and we actually started my daughter in the toddler room this year! Junior: The diversity at the Potter's House is greatly recognized and celebrated. There are students from many countries around the world and as a student, you get to hear about the different experiences your peers have had. Most of the teachers are great and care about you. However, some of the policies of the school are a bit excessive compared to neighboring schools, and the administration claims it is so Potter's House is "unique" and "does things differently." The Christian aspect of the school is great, but it is difficult to share you opinions safely if they are different from the majority, because the school is able to find anything possibly offensive. A majority of students receive tuition support from donors, which is great, but it means the students body is expected to "show off" in a way with performances throughout the year, and making sure there is a diverse group of students in photos and advertisement. Middle school student: When I came to PCA in 6th grade, I was welcomed into life at the school. At PCA, I have been involved in sports, music, the worship team, and other activities. I really feel like the teachers are approachable, and interested in our lives and academics. There are many opportunities for growth in academics, and growth in faith. We have chapel every week, and in our spiritual life groups, we all have good discussion about our relationships with God. At PCA my faith in God has grown, and I have made Christ centered relationships with friends and teachers. The arts programs at school are also really good. Every year, we have a talent show in the fall, and a big musical in the spring. The Band and Choir classes both go to competitions every year, and there are many pottery, painting, and photography classes available. Parent: A safe Christian school. Very esteemed alumnus too many to name. Graduates of this school have gone on to accomplish great things. Enough credit has not been given to the warmth, peace and love that exudes from these walls. I'm afraid though that times are changing and the parents now do not value the wholistic need for a well rounded Christian education built on the foundation of Christ. Alum: Maplewood Baptist Academy is an amazing school. Maplewood has a welcoming atmosphere whether it is from the teachers or the students. The teachers at Maplewood are very encouraging, and love to see that their students succeed in life. Even though there are smaller classes at Maplewood it can be a huge benefit. Senior: I came to Hillsdale Academy in 7th grade and I have loved it. As a small community, it allows for teachers to know every student well and have a personal relationship with them. The culture of the classroom is rich with good discussion and intellectual growth. Athletics at the Academy is a major part of the Classical, Liberal Arts education and I have grown as a person from the difficulty on the course, court and track, as well as the challenge found in the classroom. Faith is an important part of the school and I love starting every day saying the Lord's Prayer with my peers. One thing I would change is that there are two distinct groups of students. One group seems to care more about the education and tries very hard to make the best of the unique opportunity that the Academy gives. The other group appears to take their education for granted. Senior: I have attended Parkway Christian since I was a Freshman in high school. They made the transition to a new school way easier by having a new student orientation where current students went to it and go to know you. This helped because I went into high school knowing a few kids. I also really enjoy the small class sizes because the teachers can pay closer attention to you and your needs. Also, they keep Christianity at a forefront and tie it into our everyday lives. They offer a variety of honors and AP classes. Parent: We have been so blessed that our kids have been able to go to Oakland Christian School! We have been there for 12 years so have been around awhile. We love the small class sizes, the caring teachers, the challenging curriculum, the many activities offered, and especially the Christ centered focus. We have 3 boys so had to have a school that also offered sports. They offer many different sports and are actually pretty competitive. Our oldest graduated from OCS last year and was very well prepared for college. He was prepared both academically and spiritually. You can get good academics at many different schools, but the Christ centered focus taught at Oakland Christian is tough to beat.
