Alum: Unlike traditional public schools, Innovation Academy utilizes project-based learning to prepare students for real life scenarios. There isn’t as much textbook based learning as there is hands-on and it really depends on your preferred type of learning. Personally for me it was better in terms of getting to apply these projects in real life rather than having to read textbooks and not actually know to how to do the job. There is an heavy emphasis on academics and students in high school are placed in advanced courses. These are typically dual credit courses through UT Tyler and students are expected to excel in them. Students are taught through project based learning starting in kindergarten and these projects gradually get harder as they move through elementary and middle school. In high school students are prepared for college by being in college settings and taking dual credit courses.
