Middle School Student: I have been a student at ECS from K-8. I cannot stress enough the how amazing and beneficial the staff have been. Every. Single. Teacher. I’ve had has been radically committed to the mission of this school (except one but dont worry). Daily I see teachers speaking on the same level as students and genuinely listening to their needs. The motto “we grow citizens” is exactly what is happening in this environment. Not only is the school devoted to cultivating learning that is beneficial for the future for students, teaching empathy and compassion, they also have lots of cool plants around each campus :). One of my most recent math teachers was one of the most influential people I have encountered in my 14 year life. He taught me so much about how to be compassionate, devoted, and vulnerable. Not only that, he taught about the deepest workings of math and encouraged students to ask questions and explore. ECS is filled with incredible teachers like this. Parent: PHCSE are truly living out loud through everyday interactions on all levels there mission and core statement. Starting with the bus drivers, throughout administration they go above and beyond with a wholistic approach to enrich the families academic experience. My son was able to see people who looked like him in position of leadership and representation is essential in this day in age. As a parent with a child who was new to the school environment, shy and needed additional supports for health and wellness it has been unmatched. We are into are 2nd yr and there were bumps with minor child incidents and quickly resolved by staff when communicated. There communication is clear, consistent, and fair across all levels. The transition during the pandemic was seamless they already had things in place for students and families to incorporate their classrooms remotely. Parent: I really love YSGA! My kids are thriving and they absolutely love their STEAM classes and teachers. The teachers are amazing and they truly care about their students. There are always activities after school, at night, and the parents are invited to check out what the students are doing in their classrooms. My children have been there for 3 years now and they love the school and their teachers. Everyone is friendly and there is a ton of communication for parents and families. One thing that would be great is if there was a gym and organized sports some how. The building needs a bit more space, but they make great use of what they have. There are also issues with behaviors in some classes. I know that this is a problem everywhere, but I wish something could be done so that they are more consistent with discipline and consequences. Parent: I am very happy with the education my son is receiving at Propel Mckeesport. I believe his teachers genuinely care about him. Last year when he was in first grade he got off the bus excited to tell me that his teacher (Ms. Regan) was an excellent football player and she was playing with he and his friends during recess. I was impressed that she took that time to interact with the kids rather than talking with other teachers the way my own elementary school teachers had. I do however, wish that there was more opportunities for parents to volunteer in the classroom. While we do have a "meet and greet" before school starts to learn of any new policies there is not currently an open house held early in the school year to see what your child has done and how he/she is adjusting to a new grade, new teachers, and a new classroom expectations. While I would like to see those changes made, I am happy to know my son goes to a school where the teachers make him feel like part of a family!... Read 4 reviews
