Senior: In preparation for attending college, when I was in fifth grade, I enrolled in Valor Collegiate Academy. Valor is a public charter school in Nashville, Tennessee that prides itself on its social-emotional learning curriculum and on instilling an appreciation for diversity in its students. Not only has my time at Valor taught me a lot about other people and their cultures, but I’ve also had the opportunity to learn about myself and what I value. Sophomore: At Valor Voyager Academy my experience was full of optimism and inspiration. At valor, we had a chance to connect with many diverse communities that share a similar background the same as we did. We had a chance to support and check-in with each other. A method we would always do every week is Circle. Circle is where we sit down in a circle and we reflect on our feeling word for the day and we have the opportunity just to take the time of the day and check-in not with others but to ourselves as well. The support is amazing and valor helps find wild and amazing pathways for students to accomplish as a goal and an opportunity. Circle should be a recommendation to all schools and students. At valor, we help track students behavior under an app usage called Kick board overtime the student learns how to adapt different environments under issues and problems, but with the support will help them exceed their opportunities full of joy and kindness to a succeed in academics amazingly amazed.... Parent: Purpose Prep is a high-performing and vigorous school that meets each and every child where they are. They provide students with the resources to get every child where they need to be at grade level. Purpose Prep has been a great school for my kindergartener. He is excelling in all of his work. He is at a mid 1st grade level already. The school keeps the kids motivated and engaged with high energy levels activities. They have the children encouraging each other throughout the day. Purpose Prep is preparing students for academic excellence for years to come. You will definitely see the result from this school. We love this school and do recommend this school to all families.... Junior: Kipp Academy Nashville was honestly the best experience of my life. The teachers got me into the Colligate spirit by having activities weekly like chant offs or Team time every Friday. I remember we were categorized into colleges and the teacher for each group kept students hyped about not only their college but college in general. I started fifth grade apart of the University of Kentucky then went to Georgetown and finally UPenn. Even though I wasn't apart of the University of Miami, It became my top dream school throughout Middle school and freshman year of high school. Kipp Academy Nashville, being a charter school, was academically focused and valued getting students not only to college but through college as well. Senior: STEM Prep High School has an amazing guidance counselor for all that you want to know scholarships, college information, information that you need to know about your transcript, information about how to make your resume look better, and even more, but the best thing of it all gives you all that information of every question you ask with a happy smile even when she has to overwork at times. The uniforms are ok, although helping to diversify the uniform without making it unprofessional is within the realm of possibilities. The clubs and activities do exist, but the time we have to do said clubs and activities are kind of missing from it all since if I were to get an idea for a club and it was approved I would love it but would hate that we couldn't actually do the things about the club that I would have used my time for getting approval for. Senior: The school is pretty small, which is good for people who want one-on-one time with their teachers. Everyone is really supportive and always there when you need them. The teachers there feel more like friends and family rather than people who just want to get paid and get their day over with. Alum: I am a graduated senior who has attended LEAD Southeast since the 5th grade. One aspect of this school that stands out from other schools in the city is that the student body is small, which gives students an opportunity to receive one-on-one help from their teachers whenever necessary. As a school, it is also very tight-knit. Many of the teachers have done their best to ensure that the students receive the best education possible and understand the material given. However, this school does have a few notable flaws, like the building size being too small for the amount of students that attending the school Additionally, this school also does not have many extracurriculars or classes, like AP or dual credit courses, that are available for students. If you want a school with more variety in class options and extracurriculars, I may suggest attending a different school. Senior: This high school is perfect if all you want to do is go to college, they manage all of your classes and you have little control over what classes you are actually put in. However, they put you in classes where they think you will succeed or where you need credits. For clubs there is almost nothing. You have the bare bone basic clubs, along with some clubs that might seem out of the ordinary, but there really isn't many options to choose from. Some of the teachers there to watch you grow as a person, and with others it is apparent that they hate their job, which they make painfully obvious. The councilors are decent, and offer solid and realistic advice for score, credits, and classwork and where you might see yourself in the next couple of years. The community is very tight, and almost everyone knows everyone. Its hard to walk the halls and find someone that you believe to have never seen before. Senior: The school is a great place to get an education at. Classes are small ,so you will be able to get lots of help from teachers. Students are friendly, but it is not as diverse as it should be for a high school in Nashville,TN. Lead does not have many sports or activities that many other high school have and use. The high school has to share the building with a middle school which does not give many students space to do sports freely or use more area for more activities. The school does not have a band, experiment lab, computer lab, or pool to use for student activities. The school tries to do its best at creating a safe environment for the students, but the school is in an area that is not the safest to be in. My car was broken into 3 times in the past 4 years I was at Lead Academy. The food in the cafeteria is described as "prison food" by many students.
