Freshman: I love all my teachers, classmates, and friends. One of my favorite Teachers, Miss Pineda helped me grow in my Spanish ability like no other teacher. She not only taught me Spanish, but she also taught me that being nervous is a good thing! The homework load is rigorous so we students can go deeper in our studies! Another teacher, an English Teacher, Who is not here with us anymore, Miss Hoster, made us have real-world discussions about the novels every day in her English class and encouraged us to make deep connections to the real world! The school offers many IB, AP, Honors, and Dual Credit courses and many clubs and sports that challenge the student's mind and ability deeper. The school has monthly themed prep rallies and yearly homecoming, Seinor week, and International week to celebrate the school's culture! Parent: This school is a great fit for my kids but it’s not for everyone. In our experience the academic aspect is very strong. I like that the teachers don’t just teach to the staar like surrounding districts. However, it appears most teachers are still covering the staar material as 2 of my kids received perfect scores on the math and reading staar several times. The sports and extracurricular activities are limited compared to surrounding districts but most people who choose this school are aware of this and don’t expect the same. We actually prefer the low-key aspect of the sports since it allows kids the opportunity to be on their school team in sports they might not have a lot of prior experience in. Most the teachers and administrators have been very responsive when I have a concern. It seems some people who have issues don’t really research what the IB curriculum is actually like or what sports and extracurricular programs are offered before choosing to send kids here. Senior: Being at FCA as a Venezuelan student has been such a great experience! I thought that everything would be very complicated as there is a significant language barrier between English and Spanish. Middle school student: I’m Peyton a past student at trivium. I absolutely loved trivium it has been my favorite school. I love all of my teachers especially my band teacher, he was funny. I loved how much freedom we had, like 0 hour that was really fun and that was a good idea.I liked how small it was but it still felt big. There wasn’t that much drama like you would have in a normal school. And the sports….. the sports in my opinion were awesome. In volleyball we were first seat in our district without losing a single game, and then we made it All the way to the semifinals. Track was amazingly too I loved my coaches and how hard they pushed us. At trivium it was really easy to make all A’s. The only reason we left it because trivium isn’t necessarily behind in academic’s it was that it didn’t really push you like a college prep school would. But I agree no homework Is amazing. ACA's academic rigor, high expectations, and dedicated teachers helped my son develop strong study habits, time management skills, and the confidence to set and work toward his goals. ACA’s accelerated curriculum provided an opportunity to take high school-level courses beginning in 7th grade and prepared him for his pre-AP, AP and dual college classes in high school. Having earned 6 ½ high school credits in Middle School, my son had more flexibility in his schedule upon entering high school which allowed him to take more courses in his pathway or that were interesting to him. He recently graduate high school and is well prepared to begin his college engineering studies in the fall. Sophomore: Grand Prairie Collegiate Institute is a really good school. From academics to the school community the school is a place I truly consider home. I have better options for academics than I have anywhere else. GPCI allows for students like me to be set for a great future. The best part is that by the time we graduate senior year, we have many college credits from the courses offered and taken at our school. GPCI only offers rigorous courses, so those who aren't up for the challenge will really have a hard time graduating with the requirements. GPCI is a small school but, what I learned from all my years there is that the size of the school allows for more one-on-one interaction with teachers and students. It allows for such a close and tight community whereas in any other high school, not everyone knows everyone. Middle school student: The school is pretty good, with the curriculum for honors students being challenging in a good way. It helped me learn more and become confident about moving up to the next grade. The best parts of my experience were from my Science and English classes, as the teachers had a good sense of humor and taught the topics while letting us write notes, which helped with our comprehension of said topic. There aren't necessarily any bad parts of my experience, as I've had teachers who've understood the students and managed to form friendly relationships with said students. Overall, the experience is worth it for it being a charter school. A thing I would like to see change is letting the school and its students/teachers/parents have a PTA, run bake sales, or have fundraisers more often or closer to the beginning of winter break so that money can be raised earlier for more field trips to places other than parks or stadiums.... The best part of my experience there comes from the students and faculty there, they are so wonderful and brilliant and the debates and discussion there is so fruitful. The worst part comes from the attitude of people who don't see the value of the school and treat it cynically. Senior: I've been attending at Harmony Schools since 6th grade; therefore, I have seen a lot of the change which has occured in the system and culture of HSI. I'd say being a part of my school's journey to improvement can be described as both the best and worst part of my experience here. On one hand, important changes are made that greatly improve my academic life, such as the recruitment of more guidance counselers. Having a guidance counseler with less students to oversee allowed her to attend to my needs and desires better, turning my goals into a reality. However, there are undoubtedly negative aspects. Being part of a constantly improving school means having to deal with the transition of each change, which is not easy for anyone. While they are ultimately what's best, it takes time and work to get there. Senior: I enjoyed the classical curriculum, learning Latin. I connected well with the whole senior class of 2023, and enjoyed learning alongside each and everyone of them everyday. It has been the best four years of my educational life. I particularly enjoyed the small class sizes as the teachers had more time and resources allocated to each student. Teachers were very knowledgeable and approachable, have a world of knowledge on various topics. I also liked the diverse backgrounds of students from all walks of life who provided a rich learning environment to the school. Senior: I've been at HSI for over five years, I have watched as HSI as a campus has grown. Harmony is one of the few that listens to the concerns of parents and students alike which has changed the school for the better each and every year. The amount of clubs and organizations so unique any person can find at least one to stand behind. Harmony's focus for many years has been STEM however Harmony is starting to support the arts with an Art Honor Society and a slowly moving theater program that I was apart of for many years. Harmony is also known for their countless amazing scores in UIL Competitions that I myself have had a part in by being captain of the Current Events UIL Team. The organizations each work in harmony in setting up fundraisers and events as I have seen being a member of Student Council and the Student Leadership Society. Senior: I have been with Harmony Science Academy since I was in kindergarten and needless to say it has been a wonderful experience. I have gotten so many opportunities and have met so many cool people throughout my years spend here. I have had the most hands-on interactive teachers, and they never fail to make time for you when you are struggling in their class. I have also made such personal relationships with many of my teachers and faculty . It really does feel like we are a huge family. I would like to see better clubs and sporting opportunities such as football, baseball, perhaps even swimming at harmony because we do lack that a little bit. As well as better food conditions, because the food hasn't really ever been the best quality for us students. Parent: This school does not teach to the test yet its scholars consistently excel at the Texas STAAR test. Students are taught to think critically, starting in 9th grade they have seminar style classes where well constructed and fact based arguments are encouraged and developed. The approach to math is called Singapore math, and students are taught to look at problems in a playful way where there is not only one way to get at the right answer. Manipulating numbers, manipulating the word problem, and drawing charts to understand what calculation to do next. If I had been taught that way I would have LOVED math! Junior: I am very grateful to have been given the chance to spend the last 6 years here at FWAFA. As someone who went through Crowley ISD's academic curriculum and student environment, I believe that FWAFA has proven to be a school that prepares students for success. Of course, no school is perfect and there are a few issues with administration here and there (i.e. sometimes communication gets lost in translation and some things aren't announced to the students, teachers, or parents until the last minute) and the facilities need a little renovating. But, overall, I have learned a lot through the academic program especially in the science and english departments. And the fine arts program is fantastic! I have built such good relationships with my fine arts teachers, who teach rigorous lesson plans in order to hone our skills in the aspect of fine arts.
