Senior: For what the school lacks in facilities and strong sports team, it makes up with incredibly devoted teachers who work relentlessly to ensure that every student is getting the best education they can. The education succeeds other Atlanta private schools, despite being a free charter school. The spirit is strong as everyone knows each other and contributes to the overall life of the school. Parent: This is our 3rd year at ICSAtlanta (2 children). My son attended another local area charter school, which we chose because they teach Arabic. Because language instruction was just a few days a week, he was not learning very much. Now he is fluent in French! My daughter is proficient as well. Both kids LOVE their teachers and the environment there. No school is perfect, but this is as close as it gets for our family. My daughter started in K and will hopefully get all the way through in 8th grade. My son is looking forward to middle school next fall after an amazing elementary experience. Parent: We switched from our zoned school to FAST when it originally opened 6 years ago. The main reason we were interested is because they look at the whole student. You can be on level or behind in one subject and not be penalized and kept out of higher level work in another one. They started doing social-emotional learning long before it was the “it” thing to do. And design thinking prepares you for the real world. The real world isn’t a bunch of standardize tests. Junior: Honestly I do get tired of Drew at times since they isn’t many new students coming into the school. But I love my friends that I do have. I came to drew in 4th grade. I did make friends most of my friend group in 4th grade were also pretty much new students. Most of those friends left to go to private schools or elsewhere. They friend group that I have a great it’s just funny because it’s not like the friend group that I’m in currently we were not friends before we just weren’t as close as we are now. We’ve been friends for almost 7 years now. Most of my teachers are nice and helpful. Senior: This school offers something that no other elementary and middle school offer , and that is mandarin chinese. A few things that I've been able to enjoy at this school are the field trips, friends, and assemblies that take up class time. I have gained lifelong bonds with my peers, and teachers that have watched us grow up. I believe that this school is a working progress and they are soon looking to expand. Now, some, let me rephrase that, MANY improvements can be made to this school: more challenging lessons, more extracurricular opportunities, more hands on materials, a more preparatory environment, and better facilities and admin. I truly believe that this school is a diamond in the rough, knowing that they offer language immersion and a small class/ private school environment. Middle school student: Brighten has a different school environment than anywhere else I've ever been. Each floor has its own separate environment and most of the teachers actually care about their students. Parent: Overall we've been very happy at TMS. We're in our 6th year, and we've had some ups and downs over the years. One thing that has been consistent are our wonderful teachers. I cannot say enough good things about the faculty and administration. The academics and curriculum have been a great fit for my children. The hands on, project base learning is wonderful. In addition to that, the frequent expeditions are fantastic and fun. Now onto the bad. Bullying and overall school culture needs improvement. We've had issues in that department, and unfortunately, the bad kids get away with their bad behavior. The school's social scene is a little icy, and not very welcoming. this is especially true for the upper grades. I can't place the blame on the school for this problem, but it does reflect back to the local community. Avondale/ Decatur definitely have an elitist vibe that overflows into the school.... Niche User: Me & my brother go to this school, i am in 3rd he is in 1st. Globe is really good! There is events, a just perfect schedule and a awesome community! While we was in corona the school acted quick, we all went virtual for i think 4-5 months and the starting of April we went 5 tables 2 at each! At the middle of May we went 5 tables 4 at each (some tables had 3). Also they will always be there to help! They make learning fun. They always take CREST seriously. Parent: I enjoy this school and appreciate it being an option away from the public school setting. New schools always have "growing pains", but then again older schools have their own set of issues as well. Since being at this school, I have had no concerns with communications with any staff. They have always been professional, polite, and attentive to my concerns. Does that mean we always agree? No. It definitely doesn't. However, I've never left a meeting or conference feeling unheard. In addition, I feel the staff genuinely is focused on what they feel will develop strong scholars meaning academics AND discipline. Most importantly, I feel my child is in safe environment to learn...and that makes all the difference. If I could change anything, I would suggest that academics remain separate, but integrate extra curricular electives such as Art and Coding to give some exposure to working with opposite genders in an academic environment.... Parent: I love Westside! My kids have thrived there. One of my favorite things is the fact that they take the MAP assessment upon entering the school and 3 times per year. This assessment gives the teachers vital information to help all kids grow academically. They provide support where it is needed and are consistently aiming to improve and give the kids amazing experiences through field trips and class projects. No school is perfect so there is always room for improvement, but I love the small class sizes and the courses in the arts that are well supported by the executive team. Parent: My children have attended this school since opening. They also attend other learning and social clubs outside of school. Over the years I noticed how my children have strong project based learning skills over their peers that attend other private and public schools. They also have exhibited a diverse way of applying what they have learned in math, science and language arts. From my experience of both private and public schools my children have attended, the turn over is about the same. Any issues I have had with teachers at BIA have been resolved fairly quickly. Another factor in our family success at BIA has been our participation with the school and staff but also educational reinforcement at home. We do not believe that ANY school can teach our children EVERYTHING. Also, every family is different. We discussed what type of education, teachers and curriculum was important.
