Parent: Our child has been at Larchmont since kinder and has thrived. He went to the elementary Fairfax campus, a smaller campus with spacious classrooms, and he has loved the bigger Selma campus too. The leadership works hard to create an accessible and friendly atmosphere for the students and parents so there is a strong sense of community. The admin is collaborative and value parent input. The teachers are nurturing and attentive and know when to give students more help or more of a challenge. There are many enrichment classes (art, music, gardening, sports teams, band), a social-emotional curriculum and clubs. Most kids eat the (optional) lunch prepared in the Fairfax kitchen and is SO good. At Selma, our child has delved deeper into academics and developed new interests like government and digital media in clubs. Junior: As I prepare for the upcoming school year and reflect on my sophomore year experiences, my heart can't help but feel overwhelmed with joy and gratitude. After completing my first year of high school in Honduras, thoughts regarding how welcoming the new environment I would encounter clouded my mind. As a first-generation student entering a traditional US high school, my hopes were that teachers and staff would aim to support me despite obvious academic differences between me and my classmates, the students whom I had difficulty connecting with at first. Junior: What I enjoy most is the fact that no boundaries are put between subjects or students. All students can explore the same subject and yet still learn something. They have done an excellent job at involving the arts in our academics, and it has made me understand certain topics more than I used to. What I would change would primarily be how we are prepared for college. Parent: We have found this to be a truly wonderful school with outstanding teachers, devoted administrators and a diverse community. We love the project based learning and critical thinking skills that our son is gaining through the International Baccalaureate (IB) program provided at the school. We also really value the opportunity that he has to learn TWO new languages, through German immersion and then Spanish beginning in third grade. Moreover, the school community really is international and very diverse. We love how different cultures and traditions are highlighted throughout the curriculum and school activities. Freshman: I used to be a student here, my journey was pretty long struggled at first in my academics but since the teachers here are welcoming they guided me to where I’m standing now. Parent: My oldest transferred here in 3rd grade right before the pandemic hit - we left UCLA Lab School and have really loved the teachers, staff and leadership of the school. The SEL curriculum and Cool Tools reminds me a lot of UCLA Lab's approach -but without the tuition. Last year my other son started kindergarten. He's young for his grade so we decided to repeat kinder and got full support of the faculty and staff to do this - they really listened to us and allowed us to lead what we knew was best for our child. The Faculty is also very diverse which was important to us - we were looking for a school with strong BIPOC leadership and CWC is exactly that - amazing folks for my kids to look up to and aspire to be like - that look like them. One thing I wish there were more of, is the arts - but we are working on it - it's a community with so much room to create and imagine a future. Parent: My children have been at OCS for 7 years now and we could not feel luckier to have won the lottery for them to be there. It is truly a special place with a community feel. We love the small class sizes, incredible teachers and administration, and whole child philosophy. Alum: Lots of project-based learning, and the teachers are always so friendly and helpful. Since it is a hybrid-homeschool school, parents are expected to homeschool their child on asynchronous days, and you have to learn to manage your assignments and time wisely on your own as you enter the higher grades. We used to have a much stronger school culture, but now that the school had expanded so much since the start, most of the school spirit has been lost. For the most part, students there are friendly, and there are pretty much no physical fights that take place at school. I feel like Da Vinci has gave me a good start by helping me build my collaboration skills, and made me learn and adapt to being able to do and manage schoolwork and assignments at my own will.... This school is probably the best fit for families looking for a diverse and friendly environment that uses social and emotional growth as more than just a component of academic development, but as its own valuable part of a strong education. Senior: My experience for PUC was great opportunities and resourceful.My school have given me opportunities such as sight of college campuses field trips,Career Day, and ACT/SAT practices or free tutoring.Not only opportunities but the teachers would give us work that’s was more like college ready for us adapt to and gives us guidance to go to college or have a plan after high school.I wouldn’t want anything to change in PUC because they have given more opportunity than any other high school because they do care about the students future and who they will become after they die.... Middle School Student: I loved this school so much. It will fit any student whether they are different from other kids or not. There are so many options to choose from when it comes to friends, so you will never be left out. I love the academics. I learn so much and am currently in Geometry in 8th grade. Its amazing. Teachers are ok, however some are complete horrible people that shame kids, and the staff doesn't do much about it. Alum: Attended K-8 and graduated in 2017. Loved my time at Hesby made deep connections with my classmates. Elementary teachers really care for their students, middle school teachers less so. Staff are all very caring and want your child to succeed. P.E class was always very fun and competitive. Lots of leadership opportunities and your child will get to know their peers during their time at Hesby due to the small class sizes. Lots and lots of fun school trips and activities that help students make connections with all grade levels. Would highly suggest sending your child to Hesby Oaks.
