Parent: Our child has been at Larchmont since kinder and has thrived. He went to the elementary Fairfax campus, a smaller campus with spacious classrooms, and he has loved the bigger Selma campus too. The leadership works hard to create an accessible and friendly atmosphere for the students and parents so there is a strong sense of community. The admin is collaborative and value parent input. The teachers are nurturing and attentive and know when to give students more help or more of a challenge. There are many enrichment classes (art, music, gardening, sports teams, band), a social-emotional curriculum and clubs. Most kids eat the (optional) lunch prepared in the Fairfax kitchen and is SO good. At Selma, our child has delved deeper into academics and developed new interests like government and digital media in clubs. Junior: What I enjoy most is the fact that no boundaries are put between subjects or students. All students can explore the same subject and yet still learn something. They have done an excellent job at involving the arts in our academics, and it has made me understand certain topics more than I used to. What I would change would primarily be how we are prepared for college. Parent: We have found this to be a truly wonderful school with outstanding teachers, devoted administrators and a diverse community. We love the project based learning and critical thinking skills that our son is gaining through the International Baccalaureate (IB) program provided at the school. We also really value the opportunity that he has to learn TWO new languages, through German immersion and then Spanish beginning in third grade. Moreover, the school community really is international and very diverse. We love how different cultures and traditions are highlighted throughout the curriculum and school activities. Additionally, we have been really thrilled by the individualized attention that our son receives. Our kids love the school, the teachers, their friends, the programs, the sports activities and everything the school offers. Freshman: I used to be a student here, my journey was pretty long struggled at first in my academics but since the teachers here are welcoming they guided me to where I’m standing now. Being able to teach what my math teacher taught me to another student in my high school class. Parent: My oldest transferred here in 3rd grade right before the pandemic hit - we left UCLA Lab School and have really loved the teachers, staff and leadership of the school. The SEL curriculum and Cool Tools reminds me a lot of UCLA Lab's approach -but without the tuition. Last year my other son started kindergarten. He's young for his grade so we decided to repeat kinder and got full support of the faculty and staff to do this - they really listened to us and allowed us to lead what we knew was best for our child. The Faculty is also very diverse which was important to us - we were looking for a school with strong BIPOC leadership and CWC is exactly that - amazing folks for my kids to look up to and aspire to be like - that look like them. One thing I wish there were more of, is the arts - but we are working on it - it's a community with so much room to create and imagine a future. Parent: My children have been at OCS for 7 years now and we could not feel luckier to have won the lottery for them to be there. It is truly a special place with a community feel. We love the small class sizes, incredible teachers and administration, and whole child philosophy. They utilize Responsive Classroom and it gives a cohesive approach to classroom management and building relationships. My children have been challenged to take ownership of their learning and are motivated to always do more. They love school and are sad to ever miss it. Alum: Lots of project-based learning, and the teachers are always so friendly and helpful. Since it is a hybrid-homeschool school, parents are expected to homeschool their child on asynchronous days, and you have to learn to manage your assignments and time wisely on your own as you enter the higher grades. We used to have a much stronger school culture, but now that the school had expanded so much since the start, most of the school spirit has been lost. For the most part, students there are friendly, and there are pretty much no physical fights that take place at school. I feel like Da Vinci has gave me a good start by helping me build my collaboration skills, and made me learn and adapt to being able to do and manage schoolwork and assignments at my own will.... Parent: Our family is thrilled to be part of CWC-Silverlake community! We appreciate the attention given to the unique needs, experiences and qualities of each student. This provides an environment rich in motivation, kindness and learning. This school is probably the best fit for families looking for a diverse and friendly environment that uses social and emotional growth as more than just a component of academic development, but as its own valuable part of a strong education. We have found the teachers, parents and administrative staff to all be very caring and we like that environment is fairly relaxed though intentional. We have definitely observed academic progress for our child, but we are most delighted that her developing reading and math skills are accompanied by a growing confidence in who she is and a respect for the other students who come from a wide variety of economic and racial backgrounds.... Middle School Student: I loved the teachers, people, and the campus. I would like to see them maybe expanding the campus because it is very small. I think they should also change the water fountains because the ones they have they tell you not to drink out of because the pipes are dirty, and they fountains themselves are very old so because we have so many fundraisers, we should put in those new water fountains that have the water bottle filler where you put your water bottle under and it fills up. My child also never able to fill her water bottle up all the way because of the shape of the fountains and with the newer fountain, she would be more hydrated.... Read 1 review

Parent: My son attended kindergarten via remote learning due to covid-19 lockdown. During that time his teacher perfectly navigated the 24 children through the school day on zoom. She was engaging and motivated the kids as if they were in class. The children were able to attend school during the last few weeks and they interacted with each other as if they'd been physically together the entire time. It's a testament to the great job the school did during distance learning. He's now attending in-person first grade and is thriving. He's able to read, his writing and math are at grade level and his social skills are on point. All of this is due in great part to the dedication of the teacher at CWC Hollywood. The best endorsement of the school comes from my son who is always excited about going to school and loves his friends, teachers and administrators. Alum: I really liked Welby a lot and the teachers were really great. Once you get into the "upper grades" which is the fourth and fifth grade, you get to do so many cool things such as chorus, gold rush day, colonial day, book buddies, and in fifth grade you get to go on a three day trip to a sleep away camp: Pali Camp. But, in the primary grades you also get to do lots of awesome things including music class, plays (which you do in all grades), Pilgrims Day, and Book buddies ( which you do in the first grade with the fourth and fifth graders).
