Senior: Basis Mesa has taught me many things over the past 8 Years. The workload helped me develop tenacity and diligence. I absolutely love the teachers and atmosphere. They never fail to make sure that the students excel at their crafts. From hosting student hours to checking up on the students, the teachers are incredible to work with. Many of my friends I have grown along side with have impeccable characteristics and are very compassionate of others. The facilities at Basis can definitely use some work. I'm pretty sure its because the other Basis Schools are prioritized over our smaller school. I hope that are able to earn more money to aid in providing more extracurriculars. I would like a more diverse curriculum. It would be lovely if the art department had more funding because we have many talented students that love art, theatre, and music. Senior: I have been at this school since 6th grade and I love it! It can definitely be very academically challenging, but that is one of my favorite parts about it. The teachers are always pushing students to do our best work and reach our full potential. I feel that I am being prepared for college very well in my final year of high school, and I love all of the courses that are being offered senior year. Despite our rigorous academics, our school culture is not overly competitive, and we all support each other, especially when it comes to college applications senior year. Although I wouldn't say that BASIS Flagstaff has great programs when it comes to sports and arts, I have still participated in and thoroughly enjoyed both. If you are interested in a high school with a lot of school spirit, especially surrounding sports, I would not recommend BASIS Flagstaff. Parent: The academic foundation provided to SDA students is exceptional. The students are well prepared for high school and beyond. My daughter attended SDA since Kindergarten. Her transition to high school went well because of the academic foundation and organizational and study skills provided to her by SDA teachers and staff. Senior: The academics are exceptional, and for the most part the teachers are super great and helpful! Social life can be a little bit difficult because it is a small school, but I definitely found my group of people. One thing I would like to see change is the way the administration deals with bullying, harassment, and false allegations. High School Senior: At my high school, the academic requirements would be considered rigorous and overwhelming by most. While yes, this would be fairly true, as 6 APs are required to be taken and most take around 10, it is all for the preparation of higher level academic work, which, as I have heard from alumni of the school, is definitely worth it. Although this work is difficult, the teachers and upperclassmen are always willing to help with any problems encountered, which helps create a closer knit community and a positive atmosphere. While it does eat up a bit of time, as all classes are either AP or Honors classes, this taught most of us time management. Also, many may worry about the amount of sleep, but they are just classes, they have lots of homework at some times, and little at others, and sleep is usually cut due to social media and games, not class work.... Junior: I have been attending Imagine International Academy of North Texas since the first grade. This school has allowed me to grow by strengthening my communication and critical thinking skills with the IB program and has given me some of the best friends I could ask for. Senior: The learning environment was very rigorous but it helped prepare me for college. They teach you advanced learning techniques and have an open and welcoming environment with equality for everyone through the use of school uniforms. It is a safer environment than any of the public schools I went to before going here. I've been going here for 10 years and have made a lot of friends. They are also very good and supportive of students with learning disabilities like ADHD and Dyslexia and Disgraphia, as well as students with depression and anxiety. Parent: This school is a great fit for my kids but it’s not for everyone. In our experience the academic aspect is very strong. I like that the teachers don’t just teach to the staar like surrounding districts. However, it appears most teachers are still covering the staar material as 2 of my kids received perfect scores on the math and reading staar several times. The sports and extracurricular activities are limited compared to surrounding districts but most people who choose this school are aware of this and don’t expect the same. We actually prefer the low-key aspect of the sports since it allows kids the opportunity to be on their school team in sports they might not have a lot of prior experience in. Most the teachers and administrators have been very responsive when I have a concern. It seems some people who have issues don’t really research what the IB curriculum is actually like or what sports and extracurricular programs are offered before choosing to send kids here. Senior: Newark Charter School is a great school. They have great academics as they have great teachers and great variety of courses to take. The school is also very diverse in both their student and teacher body. The school also provides a variety of clubs and activities and even if your club isn't there, you can create one and start leading it. Our sports are also good, but we aren't as competitive versus other schools around us. One thing I would improve is our involvement in sports as they should be more competitive and build facilities to help our athletes. The food that they provide here isn't good even though it is free, the school needs to find a different alternative that tastes better and that is actually edible even if it means charging for it.... Middle School Student: I am currently in middle school at SCSC and I would consider it a second home. I believe the learning process is fit and customized to the student so that the student personally can grow as an individual in all kinds of aspects. The teachers and students are all very welcoming the moment you walk in. SCSC is not like other schools. I feel the diversity at this school is excellent. One thing that makes my school so unique is a little thing we call "100 Book Challenge". Each school day we read 30 minutes of a book of our choice that is our level. Based on the student's reading ability, we are matched with a level. We log a line every 15 minutes we read. The point of this is that if you reach a multiple of 100, you get awarded a medal and recognition of the entire school. I have not even scratched the surface of what makes my school unique and extraordinary compared to others, but I'm running out of room to write.
