Alum: I had a great experience with Mercy High School. The feeling of sisterhood and school spirit flowed throughout the school. Students and faculty were so kind and wanted to see everyone succeed. The atmosphere of the school was safe and comfortable. The student body is not the most diverse, but there were various organizations/clubs to promote and celebrate everyone's background. Mercy prepared me extremely well for college. Furthermore, there are a lot of clubs at Mercy that targets students' interests and potential careers for the future. The academics challenges students to think outside the box and use critically thinking. Overall, Mercy improved my skills in every subject, especially writing. Because of Mercy, college has been easy for me since I was so well-prepared during high school. Similarly, Mercy has a good amount of AP classes to gain college credit. Middle school student: The teachers here are thoughtful and always accessible. They are supportive and encouraging. I came here from Troy public school and what a difference my daughter is having. She went from being told she had a learning disability to achieving academically. The classes can be challenging but the teachers and support teachers will stay late, come in early, available through chats to help with assignments. What I love as a parent is that they lead with values. Students, teachers, and staff are all respectful and hold one another to a standard of excellence. I love what this school has done for my daughter's self-esteem and confidence. I am a new parent at Sacred Heart and look forward to my daughter graduating and getting into the university of her dreams. Last year, their Valedictorian was accepted into John Hopkins! Parent: My child entered NDP last year. And I am a teacher at another school. It is from the lens of both parent and teacher that I view NDP. The first thing that I noticed is how the adults (parents, faculty, admin.) reach out to new families. They are SO friendly. What a relief to feel authentically welcomed. An inclusive community benefits all of its members and is a good place for learning. I next noticed my child's experiences in the academic realm. She was definitely working hard and at times felt stretched to maintain the standard that she'd set for herself. Well, good! That stretch is where real learning takes place. The students at NDP are set up to succeed, have a lot of support, and do well if they are willing to work hard. Finally, I would say that my child fits in well because she enjoys sports and clubs and she made some good friends in this way. Junior: My experience at University of Detroit Jesuit(UofD) has been a mixture of immense stress and absolute joy. My school has a reputation of being a tough school, and it is definitely very academically challenging. However, knowing that others are in the same situation assuages these feelings of stress. Uofd's tough curriculum may weigh us down sometimes, but it comforts us to know that after this, college will be much more manageable. There is this omniscient presence of comradeship in taking academics seriously. Also, the school offers a myriad of social events and clubs that take your mind off of school. After a long day of class, it is only right that we cheer on our team in a football game. These events are easy to assimilate into because there aren't any cliques at Uofd. Senior: Our Lady of the Lake is a very good school. There are many sports and clubs to participate in. The classes here prepare students well for college, as well as the teachers. The school is located in a good and convenient location with being close to downtown and houses. However, there are also some negatives. There are only about 20 people in the Senior Class, with only about 65 students total in the high school. I wish we had more students here because this would allow us to have even more clubs and sports to participate in. Senior: I transferred from public school into Hackett freshmen year due to covid and I couldn't be more grateful. At my public school, I lacked academic challenges; I would pass with A's in every class without trying. At Hackett, we are pushed to do more than the average high school class. We are constantly intertwined in the Hackett community and are able to join sports and clubs we wouldn't get the chance to otherwise. Students here are interested in learning which definitely helped me to gain an interest in what I am doing as well. As a former public school student, I can tell that my teachers care about how well I am doing, for example, we have mandatory peer tutoring available for every student if a teacher thinks you could benefit from the extra help. We also are being pushed to complete many assignments at a college level rather than the standard high school level. Sophomore: I rather like Bishop Foley. I love the size and the connectedness of the school. If I meet someone else who knows someone from my school, I almost always know them. It's nice having a connected school and it deters problems in my experiences. The teachers are good, with a fine student to staff ratio. My worst experiences, however, are the flip side of the coin of a small school, where if Iet someone know something, it gets passed around fast. However, that hasn't happened to me much, and some problems, such as with people, are simply unavoidable. Senior: My experience at Muskegon Catholic Central was excellent. It is a small school with about 170 in the high school, so you are able to participate in any or every sport you would like. Students are also pushed academically. In our academics many higher courses are provided and students are expected to get good grades and even if they are not they have the opportunity to meet one on one with the teachers outside of our 15 student classes. Students in this high school are also given the opportunity to express how they feel and get a chance to change some rules. For example, a rule that has been challenged and changed is getting uniform sweatshirts instead of only being able to wear the uniform shirt. This and other rule changes are nice because it does not feel so much like we are being controlled but more like we are a community who cares about each other. Junior: I have been going to this school since I was 4 years old, so 13 years! I think that this is an amazing school to be at! Everyone knows everyone else, all the teachers know you and know what your needs are and they do their best to make sure all of your needs are met! It is not at every school that a senior can walk past a class of second graders and the second grader says the seniors name and the senior says the second graders name, this is how Sacred Heart Academy has such a close bond with each other.
