Parent: We have two daughters at Chapin, both of whom started in Kindergarten, and could not be happier with the school. As parents, our desire is to help our daughters become independent thinkers who love to learn. So far, Chapin has been incredible in this regard. Chapin combines intense academics and social-emotional learning in a way that develops thoughtful, emotionally mature, successful students. The school's access to resources and extracurricular offerings is incredible, enabling the girls to try out sports and activities. Having K-12 under one roof is a real plus, especially with easy access to Carl Schurz park, Asphalt Green, and Randall's Island. Senior: Sacred Heart is a unique school, with incredible facilities. It helps girls find their voice and encourages us to explore different paths to problem solving. Even though we are in a competitive environment, we are always supportive of each other and encourage each other to do our best. Parent: When choosing a school for our daughter, it was important for us for the school to be committed to diversity and creating well-rounded, emotionally healthy students. We wanted to balance giving them an excellent education while avoiding a pressure cooker environment or Gossip Girl-style culture. It was a tall order, but Hewitt fit the bill and we ended up choosing the school over a higher ranked girls school. The head of school, Tara Christie Kinsey, has a strong and compelling vision for changing the way girls are educated. I wish I had attended a school like Hewitt growing up! Alum: I have attended Greenwich Academy since PC (pre-connecting class) and I can honestly say I had a wonderful experience. Though I do not having anything to compare it to as a "lifer," my overall experience and its impact was positive. It was absolutely the right decision for our daughter and our family! Sophomore: When touring DA as an 8th grader, I instantly fell in love with how close-knit the community was. Although I was accepted into other prestigious schools on the Upper East Side, I felt that the girls there were cold and were not very welcoming; therefore, I chose to attend Dominican Academy. I believe that DA truly wishes that all of their students become the best that they can be, both in academics and in character. Every girl here cares about her grades and strives to do her greatest, and teachers will challenge their students, but will not turn away someone if they reach out for help. Being at Dominican Academy has given me a sense on how to be independent in my studies, almost how one would be when they attend college. Parent: My daughters will be starting their 5th year at Sacred Heart. As a parent, I cannot say enough wonderful things about this school. My girls are learning how to be leaders, how to think critically without being told what to think, how to support their peers and their surrounding community through community service. Academically, they are challenged on a daily basis and learn to think outside the box, have become avid readers and critical writers. The school has taught them empathy and compassion for all, no matter their differences. As a family we are all supported by the staff and faculty (not just my girls) and any issues or suggestions we have are listened too. Athletics is top notch. Junior: I love the inclusivity and how open everyone is. Anyone could feel at home here with all the commodities and an interesting student body. As an Asian American, there is a lot of representation within the school and I feel very well-connected and safe. The education aspect is also very diverse and more teachers are always welcome to help students when asked. The student-to-teacher ratio is very small which is good because it makes it easy to get your questions answered and your voice heard. Something I would change would be the food system that we have. I feel that we need better and healthier options that are more enjoyable for the students. Most people end up eating unhealthy foods because the healthy options are not as well thought out and put together. Senior: Best part of my experience was definitely getting pushed to grow and become the young woman I am today. Worst part of my experience was definitely all of high school; it was fun but compared to other schools we do not get nearly the same experience. While I understand we trade off for a better education I would have liked to see more focus on sports and more overall school spirit. We never get approved for field trips or fun spirit days and are not allowed to do anything. The rules are definitely very strict, and not in a reasonable way. Senior: In my eighth grade year, I was introduced to the Notre Dame School of Manhattan and felt a connection, so of course, I rushed to take the Tachs Exam - which I had been quite averse to initially. Despite a bumpy transition between middle and high school, through clubs and French projects I accumulated a substantial amount of loyal, talented, and intelligent friends. Without Notre Dame, I would have never been exposed to some of the most brilliant, curiosity-invoking teachers, ones who have both challenged and encouraged me throughout my high school years. Junior: From my very first experience here, which was at a shadow day, I saw that girls at the Ursuline School are very friendly, classy, and positive people.
