Parent: We have two daughters at Chapin, both of whom started in Kindergarten, and could not be happier with the school. As parents, our desire is to help our daughters become independent thinkers who love to learn. So far, Chapin has been incredible in this regard. Chapin combines intense academics and social-emotional learning in a way that develops thoughtful, emotionally mature, successful students. The school's access to resources and extracurricular offerings is incredible, enabling the girls to try out sports and activities. Having K-12 under one roof is a real plus, especially with easy access to Carl Schurz park, Asphalt Green, and Randall's Island. Alum: In the beginning, I felt quite alienated due to entering the school as a "new nine," but once I began stepping out of my comfort zone and attempting to make friends, all students wholeheartedly embraced me. Every day I am amazed at how committed my peers are to their own education, and unlike most other secondary schools, every student here comes to school with a genuine desire to learn and grow. They are dedicated to their academics and extracurriculars but also know how to have fun and relax at the same time, which nurtures a healthy learning environment. Likewise, the teachers actually care about both their students' understanding of the material and their wellbeings. They are flexible and willing to accommodate their students while also being able to adjust course schedules accordingly, which is an extremely admirable trait. Senior: Sacred Heart is a unique school, with incredible facilities. It helps girls find their voice and encourages us to explore different paths to problem solving. Even though we are in a competitive environment, we are always supportive of each other and encourage each other to do our best. Whether it was in class or during sports, we had fun and enjoyed our time together. I’ve made a great group of diverse friends I know I will keep forever. I also feel very prepared for college. Parent: Exceptional, phenomenal, and superb! Those are just a few words to describe our experience at The Nightingale-Bamford School. This school has delivered everything it promised during the application process, and much more. The strong, close community is a stand-out at Nightingale. We felt welcome and a sense of belonging right from the start, and this has truly allowed our daughter to thrive. The teachers are exceptional, they make strong efforts to know our daughter and challenge her in appropriate, thoughtful ways. Sophomore: I have had a very positive experience at Madeira. The teachers and staff are friendly and talented, and the campus is beautiful. The food is pretty good (especially taco days!) The mod schedule eliminates the week many students dread: finals week. It does mean that every week 5, the end of a mod, is particularly stressful. I think the schedule is worth it overall though because it means I can dive deeper into a concept, such as a time period in history in my Global Studies class. Alum: I was incredibly lucky to have been able to go to Baldwin. While any student or alum will say there were overwhelming periods (most will go catatonic at some point in junior and/or senior year simply from the stress of college admissions), I would argue that it was all worth it. There isn't much hand-holding past your freshman year, which I now really appreciate having worked at other private schools across the world, as it taught me how to self-direct my studies before starting college. Socially it was warm, the teachers were as a whole supportive and often went above and beyond to make sure we felt confident, checking in on you if you fell behind. Naturally it's a private school in a wealthy area, and so the wealth/class disparity is definitely noticeable. I do believe Baldwin could do a better job of educating the wealthier students about the "other side" - many understand the privilege they have to go to Baldwin, but don't really understand how rare the life they lead is.... Senior: I have attended Linden Hall now for five years and have only great things to say about my experience. Though it is a small school, Linden Hall allows for a lower student to teacher ratio, giving the students more confidence when asking questions, allowing them to be more engaged, and providing them with more opportunities for one-on-one time with the teachers. Junior: Overall, I was incredibly impressed when I first joined Carrollton. I feel comfortable in an all-girls school and nearly every teacher there genuinely teaches well. The campus is gorgeous, but the only downside is the lack of a cafeteria. Parent: When choosing a school for our daughter, it was important for us for the school to be committed to diversity and creating well-rounded, emotionally healthy students. We wanted to balance giving them an excellent education while avoiding a pressure cooker environment or Gossip Girl-style culture. It was a tall order, but Hewitt fit the bill and we ended up choosing the school over a higher ranked girls school. Alum: My exchange year experience in St. Timothy’s school was excellent. I’m from Spain and I spent my sophomore year as a boarder. I had never spent a year away from home and I was terrified at first but after only a month this school felt like a new home to me and I made friends that are like family. The girls were very welcoming and I made friends from all over the world. Right now after two years I still keep in touch with them, I’ve recently come to Maryland to visit my best friend from school.
