Alum: This school has had massive influence on my mind and spirit since matriculating in the JFK era. Can't really speak for current performance of school leadership and its culture, but lived it during an especially troubled and troubling time. Sorry to say it, though the obsession with Harvard, etc. detracted from the healthy experience that we needed so badly, but which was not available to many, despite the boosters who would cling to the idea that they had not been damaged nor damaged others. Bullying was the norm in our time, and one learned how to "blend in" so as not to receive the horrific public shaming that "gay" or otherwise non-standard boys would get. Not the best preparation for an accepting or humanistic mind set for life, one asserts. "IQ" learning may have been at the highest level than any school in the country if not the world, in one's time there. Parent: My son is in middle school program. BH is a terrific school with very supportive faculty and administrative members who know how to mentor, coach and teach boys during their transformative phases as well as encouraging boys to take risk in order to get out their comfort zone and providing students just enough space to fail without dampening their enthusiasm and curiosity. The school has been working extremely hard to attract diverse student population to better overall student experience and promote inclusivity. Parent: Our son started as a 9th grader in the fall of 2020. The school has exceeded our very high expectations. Even with the ongoing pandemic, the school has managed to provide an academically rigorous and caring/supportive community. The teachers are extraordinary. They know our son very well and truly care about his academic AND personal and spiritual development. His academic transition from public school has been seamless. We are confident the education he is receiving will prepare him very well for college. In this uncertain time with so much angst in society, I can not think of a better community for our son to be part of. On a daily basis the faculty and administration communicate their time tested wisdom that allows him to help filter out the current angst and noise that surrounds us all. Senior: I have had an excellent experience at St. John’s Prep. Although I have experienced many challenges, the school has done an excellent job in preparing me for college. Additionally, I have felt that the school guides its students every step of the way, which instills a sense of confidence in all of us. The school culture is great. Although we are a sports powerhouse, the school does a good job at promoting other aspects of student involvement, such as drama productions. Alum: Going to BC High was easily one of the best decisions I/my parents have ever made. It is truly a school that goes above and beyond, with an unbreakable sense of community and brotherhood. Between the incredible teachers that truly care and the excellent guidance department, the opportunities are endless if you take advantage of them. BC High has made me a more well-rounded student and person, and I do not know where I would be today without this school. The friendships you make at this school will be some of the best and most long-lasting ones you will ever make, even through college and beyond. The location and commute on the T and interaction/proximity to the city makes every student a responsible, independent, and, well-adjusted member of society way before they are expected to be. Junior: I’ve always despised school, growing up I bounced around from school to school and I could never find the right fit. All my life I have been surrounded by teachers who thought boring lessons straight out of a book and clearly showed a lack of inspiration and effort when it came to teaching. Just as I was about to bow my head and surrender to the education system, it was CM that revived my thirst for knowledge. Despite the fact that I have only been enrolled for a year CM has provided me with an experience like no other. At CM I feel like that teachers believe in me and care about me. I feel inspired to learn everyday and I appreciate the efforts the teachers put into engaging lessons. But the best thing about CM is the countless opportunities available to a student. CM offers a wide range of teams and clubs to be appart of. You can be a star athlete one day, a debater the next, and peer minister by the end of the week. Parent: Our family wishes to pay the highest of compliments to Hillside School for the management of its Spring ’20 Trimester! When academic classes at Hillside resumed online on Monday, March 30, Hillside’s faculty performed with excellence, as if the school had been operating with remote learning for quite some time. Our family was incredibly impressed with the overall effectiveness of Hillside’s remote learning program. And the continuity of curriculum throughout the Spring ’20 trimester exceeded our expectations! Hillside School set a date & time to launch remote learning of Monday, March 30, 2020 at 8:15 am to noon. That morning, his screen lit up with images and familiar faces at precisely 8:15 am. Then, from Monday, March 30 through the last week of May, the consistency of his school day was just what we hoped for. Academic lessons began right at 8:15 am and continued up until noon. Parent: My boys (7th and 6th grades) just finished their first year at Fessy and it exceeded ALL of our expectations! I wish we had made the move sooner. The focus and attention on boys and their growth was outstanding - they are developing boys to meet today and tomorrow's complex challenges. The focus on group learning, team work and respect across all dimensions is seamless, but powerful. The International / Boarding student influence is a special element - it literally opens up the world to all boys at Fessy. There is no other school I know of in this age range that brings that breadth and depth of perspective to their school. Parent: Our son has been at St. Paul’s for two years. He has been happy and engaged since the first day and has made great academic progress. The classes are small, allowing for almost individualized instruction. Being all boys allows the faculty to tailor the curriculum to boys’ learning style. The music is not just about the music. It is a vehicle for stretching their brains, for learning how to collaborate, for developing time management skills, and for experiencing the pride that comes with authentic achievement (the singing in church and concerts is quite beautiful). I should note that St. Paul’s requires a significant time commitment from the boys and the families. That is all by design-- the boys get so much out of being a Chorister because they put so much into it. Parent: We have had an absolutely amazing experience at the Fenn so far. Our son, who just joined the 5th grade, is about three months in so far and is having the time of his life. Coming from a public school, the environment couldn't be more different; he is constantly challenged, both in terms of the freedom given to him to organize his own day and show up to places on time and also academically, where (for someone who always excelled in his public schools) he is being challenged for the first time. Our entire experience - from the first contact with the admissions team to our last event at the school - has been more than we could have hoped, and we're so excited about the future at Fenn!...
