School of the Holy Child Reviews
Rating 3.85 out of 5 39 reviews
Holy Child is without a doubt a college prep academy at its finest. There is rigor and intensity in almost all classes in some form or another. I would recommend Holy Child for the education and connections but not for the community as a whole. A majority of the administration cares more about the student's grades than the students and the students are toxically competitive. Their charity events and fundraisers inadvertently shame families with less money into paying more. In addition, there is a severe lack of diversity and very apparent privilege at the school. With all of this being said the excessive workload and stress put on the students do indeed make them prepared if not over-prepared for the college workload. And there are most definitely a good handful of teachers that students can count on to be understanding and truly care about them as people.
My daughter loves Holy Child - the school has become her second home. The faculty and staff are kind, caring and supportive. She is thriving in her academics, athletics and extracurriculars. The school is smaller than other comparable schools but that's the secret to its success - its smaller size allows for a feeling of belonging and family. My daughter is not just a name on a class roster - her teachers know her and nurture her to be her best possible self.
I’ll admit not all of my experiences were great at Holy Child. However I don’t think I would have majored in Journalism or minored in photography if it wasn’t for my experiences at SHC. I graduated the summer of 2020, we were the pandemic class. For new or perspective students know this, the hardest teachers are really making you a stronger person. Not every teacher was great at SHC, but there were a few that stood out. Mr. G isn’t there anymore but I wouldn’t be a Journalism major if he hadn’t taught me Freshman and Sophomore year English. He was the one who taught me write. Dr. Hoffman left the same year I graduated, he taught me that when I put my mind to something even if I fail success is only around the corner. It taught me to never give up. Ms. Slattery was another favorite teacher of mine she helped me find my voice in my historical papers by letting me write creatively, another reason I’m doing what I do today.
