I have been attending School Lane Charter School since the third grade, and many parents, along with my own, enrolled me into this school in hopes of an excellent academic experience. SLCS is quite satisfactory in terms of academics, as it offers the challenging IB Diploma Program. However, we should have the option to take AP courses, or atleast additional IB courses available for selection. SLCS needs to offer more diverse range of courses, and especially more extracurricular activities, which we are severely lacking (STEM club, coding club, fitness club, GSA, etc). I hope SLCS continues to expand opportunities for their students - extracurriculars are important aspects of the highschool experience. The teachers are often helpful and understanding.

SLCS is especially good when it comes to academics. The classes are fairly small, averaging 20 students, which allows one-on-one help. Also, each class at the high school helps students prepare for college because the work is very rigorous and works on college skills like research and analysis. This is further promoted at the high school, which makes the IB diploma programma available to all students at no cost. However, one of the downsides is that SLCS doesn't have any sports and a limited variety of extracurriculars. While this promotes academics, it also takes away from the range of activities available to students and makes school spirit lacking.
My children have attended School Lane for the past 8 years. I have been very happy with the recent changes in the administration at the elementary level. I feel the new Principal is really connected to the students, staff, and families. The school is more responsive to best teaching practices. They have really improved their communication with families. The diverse population of families- both students and staff- is such a benefit to the culture at School Lane. The IB program shifts the focus from memorizing and regurgitating facts to true student engagement with learning. Critical thinking, questioning, and problem solving are actually taught.
