When I first applied to the school, I was not too keen on attending. A lot of my friends from middle school were going to a different school that was also a lot closer to my home. I thought I was going to regret the decision of going here. However, I was totally wrong! The workload may not be easy but the teachers are very understanding and I am sure I learned more here than I would have been able to at any other high school. The (relatively) small class size that does not feel too small is perfect, especially within the positive environment that TAG is so proud of. I have grown unbelievably within the few years I have spent at this school and I am proud to say that this is the high school I attended.
The School for the Talented and Gifted at Townview is an amazing school, home to a diverse group of students and teachers. While the workload can be heavy at times, the support from teachers and students is great! My favorite thing about TAG is probably the community and how close it is.
At TAG, students are put in a very competitive environment. Most students were used to being the brightest and highest scoring students at their middle schools before they came to TAG. For most students, this changes when they come to TAG. It is significantly harder to remain at the top of the class without working very hard. And the competitive environment isn’t what everyone is looking for. However, for many students, it does bring out the best in them. I would have settled for a lower SAT score, or lower grades, if I wasn’t surrounded by people who were scoring well into the 1500s and getting all-A’s. Because of the competitive environment, I chose to match or surpass my peers. Again, this isn’t for everyone - some people don’t like the pressure. The teachers here do care a lot, and they’ve set us up for college and for the college application process. Additionally, it is totally manageable to have a strong social life or join a top sports team while getting good grades.
