Santa Cruz High is a very good high school that gives students the opportunity to choose a very academically rigorous path through high school, or focus more on exploring their interests with unique classes that will inspire them. Or both! The 8-classes-per-year model (optional) allows students to take more classes that interest them. It is in a great location close to downtown (which has restaurants for students to go to at lunch), and a few minutes from the beach as well as Westcliff. Some of the teachers are absolutely amazing, while others are very much the opposite. Admin is sometimes hard to work with, and while there are a large amount of clubs, and it is easy to start one yourself, they often lose momentum and do not accomplish much. Students really have to seek out information/opportunities/resources unless they are clearly struggling. The CTE program is amazing! The art department in general is great. Sports are good, but school spirit is nonexistent!

Santa Cruz High is a very diverse school with an open campus which provides freedom and trust to students. It’s a place where one gets to be their true self’s. Despite the lack of taste in their food, they have wonderful staff and counselors whom guide you towards the right path, which tops it all. Nothing like a true cardinal bird, flying out obstacles and creating a better and more welcoming atmosphere for everyone!
In terms of academics Santa Cruz High School is very good. There are good teachers all around and a wide array of electives where any student can find something they're genuinely interested in. If you're a student who wants to take a bunch of AP's and would prefer a science heavy load of classes Santa Cruz High is the best public school in the area. Sports aren't prestigious but they are fun and that obviously isn't an issue so long as you aren't trying to be a college level athlete. The band is also very good and comes home with numerous competition trophies year by year.
