I have attended Sanford throughout middle and high school. I am impressed with the school’s emphasis on the individual rather than the group. I can always count on my teachers whenever I need extra help on a topic, especially the science teachers at Sanford. As a graduating senior, I had a great experience with the college counselors, who equip you with the right tools when navigating college and the application process. I was involved heavily in the athletics program, and I think a valuable aspect of Sanford is that everyone makes a team no matter your skill level. Overall, I would recommend Sanford to students seeking middle or high school!
Sanford has a goal of becoming very progressive, so if you are comfortable with that for your child you will like Sanford very much. Although academically it is on par with a good public school it does carry a social status/name prestige that many parents find very appealing. The campus is very pretty and very open. Athletics are rather weak except for the superior athletics they recruit from less prestigious schools who in turn crush the schools with less athletic financial resources. The art/music/theater department is good, plays comparable to what every school is turning out these days. Many teachers left and have been replaced, but diversity, particularly in leadership is still greatly lacking. Most children are nice, as are the families. Favoritism is definitely prevalent and everyone else is pretty much in a supporting role.
Sanford is a great school, for certain individuals. The best part of Sanford for me personally was the atmosphere and environment. The students you are surrounded with are extremely supportive and kind. If you are in a bad environment, I recommend Sanford completely. The most negative part of Sanford for me personally was the academics. I love to learn a lot and I adore challenges. Unfortunately, the academics were not very hard. As a public school transfer into a private school, I had very high expectations. Yet, I found out that the academics in Sanford, a private school, were the same as a public school curriculum. Personally, I would love to see this change. The name of Sanford holds a legacy, but Sanford is a school, a learning environment. A private school should challenge me and want to help me expand my knowledge, not limit it. In the end, I believe in order to truly understand Sanford, I would recommend talking to someone in the grade you're in that is currently enrolled.
