Both my children went to Calhoun and each had different interest, one in Theatre, one in Sports. Calhoun equally supports the Arts programs as they do the Sports programs. And the academics are even stronger! Principal Nicole Hollings is the heart and soul of Calhoun!

Being a part of the Sanford H. Calhoun environment has been fantastic. The arts program here is amazing. The willingness of the administration to accept a music program like the one that we have here is just unbelievable. For me the only real problem that l’ve faced in Calhoun is the lack of diversity and coming together. Yes, we have clubs that bring people with different ethnicities together ,but we always confine ourselves to our own friend groups and people with similar ethnicities. The special education program here in Calhoun is amazing. Kids with special needs are integrated into regular classes so they don’t feel unwanted and they have so many activities to play after school. We also participate in the Bellmore-merrick challenge which gives children with disabilities the opportunity, to pair up with a typical developing same aged peer, and participate in fun filled learning activities.
I would have gone to Mepham but I got into the On Tour program and I'm so glad I'm at Calhoun! It is the most accepting and friendly school in the whole Bellmore-Merrick district. Everyone is so passionate about what they do. The teachers are great, the guidance counselors are the most helpful people, and the atmosphere of the school is like no other.
