I had smooth speckled skin, empty craters in place of my two front teeth, and a coily afro that remained untamed. Children were relentless in their criticism, as I was the only black kid in our school. It’s hard to pinpoint the moment in which my self-esteem was initially deflated, but I could estimate that the first grade was the culprit.
The racism that I battled began subtle, consisting of microaggressions that took moments of reflection to feel the sting. Students consistently found new stereotypes to taunt me with. Watching peers belittle my race was wounding, and I absorbed their words like a sponge.
My most significant issue with Sandy High is the way that some students have made me and other minorities feel here, but I feel as though there are also countless positives to the school.

My experience at Sandy High School was the best experience I've ever had at a school. I enjoyed every second of my high school experience thanks to the students, teachers and staff. This school is very well organized and has many different opportunities for each student as an individual. I have gotten the best education because the teachers there genuinely care about their students. Thanks to my school counselor I have gotten so much done that I only needed 2 credits at the start of my Senior year and I know exactly what I want to do after high school. I would consider myself friends with most of the students at Sandy High School and they're all amazing and respectful individuals. I believe the friends I have made will be my life long friends. I also got the chance to be a part of Sandy's Varsity cheer team which was the best! The girls are amazing and so are the coaches. I am very proud to be a Pioneer! Go Sandy!
Very pretty school, lots of windows and a good heating/cooling system. Most teachers are nice, some of them are boring. I like the ELAs, and good location with lots of trees. Lots of STEM/trade school related classes, which is unfortunate for students wanting to pursue social sciences. Facilities are usually clean, good gym. Not enough advanced/AP level classes offered.
