Sandy Creek High School Reviews

Overall my experience at Sandy Creek High School has been very positive. There are many opportunities I have been privileged to take advantage of like the Governor's Honor Program and National History Day. In addition to this, I have been able to take a variety of challenging courses like AP Chemistry and AP BC Calculus that have further solidified my interest in going into Aerospace Engineering. And aside from the plethora of academic opportunities available at Sandy Creek, the culture and environment is very enriching as well.
My 4 years at Sandy Creek were better than I expected. The school was very diverse, the staff was also diverse. I started off in concert band but decided that sports was more for me. I was part of the track team and that was an amazing experience for me while I was there. I would say that the worst part was that the football and basketball teams took all the funding, while the track team struggled to raise money at times, but we dealt with it. The support I received from my teachers also made a huge impact in me wanting to go to college. Overall, the experience was great. I'll miss Sandy Creek, but looking forward to moving on to higher education.
When I first came to Sandy Creek as a freshman, I was excited to get the high school experience. However, I feel like I went in at the wrong time, not only because of covid 19 but also because the school only recently improved. I am a senior, but the freshmen are more prepared to start college than I am. I had no counselor to help me when I was a freshman. I did not even know my counselor. However, I will say the counselors now are very helpful and I feel that I am able to start being better prepared for my future. Besides the entire situation with the counselors, lunch is also a problem. There are way too many students even though there are three lunches. Many students skip lunch or never even have a chance to eat because they wait in long lines to get their food. And for the students that bring food, there were only four microwaves to accommodate all of these students. Recently the school has upgraded to around six to seven, but this should not have taken three years to do.
