I would like to start off by saying that this school has been a great opportunity for me. This school helps prepare and train students on their next step to college life after their high school career. They prepare you on things like academics, techniques used in college, allow you to adapt to a college schedule, and so much more. Some things that are lacking are communication within the staff and everything is poorly managed or scheduled. Other than that, the school is really good at preparing students for the future and gives a safe learning environment for students.
Sandhoke Early College is honestly a pretty good high school. They have a very involved staff who constantly support students in and out of the school. Every professor is very understanding and respectful to students and I have never had a problem with any of them. However, Sandhoke Early College is not somewhere you attend if you want to slack off in class or you don't ever want to have to study. At this institution you HAVE TO apply yourself. If you don't understand something you HAVE TO go ask your teacher for help or for some type of clarification. I promise you 9/10 times, the professor will be willing to help you! The only real negative aspect of the school would have to be the stress it induces upon students but that just comes with the school. If you ever need someone to talk to I wholeheartedly recommend going to the principal- Ms. Pegram. She is super understanding and considerate. She understands that we have things outside of school that can also be stressors for life.
My name is Chinena and I am currently a Senior at SandHoke Early College High School. Overall, this is a lovely school especially if students like to have challenges. They have seminars for each grade that focuses on mental health and to start having students think about their futures. They’ve even brought Alumni who’ve graduated and went to places such as Duke to come and talk with the students. You start taking college classes in Sophomore year which is amazing because if you stay on track, you will graduate with an Associates degree which is now the new normal for even minimum wage jobs. The teachers and faculty help and guide each student, but they will also let go and push you when they know you can do it. What this school lacks for in sports and arts, it makes up for in academic performance.
